Default Domestic Art Book.. No More Imports.

So Viz is releasing 3 art Book in the next few month:
The Art of Shonen Jump: One Piece Color Walk - Nov 8th, 110pg, softcover - 14.99
Rurouni Kenshin Character Profile - Nov 1st. 200pg. softcover - 14.99
Art of Fullmetal Alchemist - Nov 1st. 90pg hardcover - 19.99
These are 34% off if you get them at amazon.

Domestic artbook means consumer don't have to pay extra high prices for shipping the imported japaense version. Also you are now able to browse it at the store too (assuming they won't be shrinkwrap). All text would be translated too. Do you think Viz will put out other art book in their "Art of Shonen Jump" line for Naruto or Blech in Bleach and so on. We need more doemstic art books.

Tokyopop also releasing Justice N Mercy by Min-Woo Hyung who does Priest. The art in Priest are fantastic and the story if you haven't check it out is epic that span across 3 generation.

I have seen Viz's version of Angel Cage (one of Kaori Yuki's Angel Sanctuary artbooks), which is very nice. I was pleased to see that they'd drop the "let's cover half the cover with a big white and red swoop" annoyance that's on the Ceres and FY books. And it's hardback too. The Japanese version isn't even hardback.

I'm excited about this, too. Isn't the DNAngel artbook Federcoming out, as well? I thought I remember hearing that it was being considered at least.

I ordered the Kenshin book and was going to go for the FMA book as well, but I just bought the Japanese version this August. I didn't think it was worth it to double dip just so I could read the two-page note from the author at the end of the book. But had I known this was going to be hardcover, I may have thought about it a little longer before deciding against it .

Anyways, as I said, I like this idea simply for the fact that it will likely be more economical than hunting down/buying the Japanese counterparts. All that needs to happen now is for them to release something that I want that I don't already have. Or something I already have that has excessive text .

I plan on picking up this one, but man, $40 is a hefty price. Sounds like it's getting some nice slipcased packaging and great printing though. I just hope this sparks getting some more of Min-Woo's works in English.

I do see more art books in the near future. I wonder if it's too much to hope for that Viz will one day see fit to acquire the updated X: Zero, and the new book for the same series? Otherwise, it's gonna be awhile before I allocate the funds for those.

Kio, you've gotta let us know through the Manga Recommendations forum whether you like the Kenshin softcover. I didn't get it through the last sale, but am still curious about what's inside. Pretty please? :>

Basically, all this means for me is that I'm horribly addicted to artbooks at a bad time, since I'm starting to see more and more of the ones I have getting licensed. But it won't stop me... all I really need is a good excuse to replace mine, and I do. Although I am still debating on replacing North Side/South Side...

I think it comes out some time next month, and I ordered during the Viz sale so there's no telling when I'll actually get it, but I'll see what I can do once I get it . Is it definitely going to be softcover though? I thought maybe with the hardcover english versions Viz has opted to do, that maybe it would be a trend...either way though I'm looking forward to seeing it. I bought one of the Kenshin books (in japanese, of course) but it was so text heavy I don't look at it too much. And to be honest, I don't even know which book exactly this one is an english version of .
