Default Are ADV US bricks & thincase boxes denting ADV UK sales much?

As I'm sure ADV UK relies on sales to anime fans as well as thru B&M and online stores, how much do they reckon the cheap US sets are denting their home release sales.

DVD buyers are quite canny, & fans probably know where to get their DVDs cheap better than most.

So are buyeres importing the cheap legit sets from ADV US, especuially given favourable £:$, rates making ADV take a signifigant hit on their profits?

And you expect someone who doesn't have access to their sales figures to know this, how?

I'm not asking for a financial statement. Just curious if anyone has been told it in conversation, or its been hinted at.

Companies are always blaming cheap bootlegs for loss of sales. Cheaper legit releases from elsewhere can have the same effect.

The simple answer is no. People like us who have the knowledge of how to import just don't have a significant impact on ADV UK's bottom line. To give you an example, look at what happened with the Sakura Taisen OVA Collection. Nobody on here should have bought the UK version of that, and yet it sold just fine anyway.

The only tangible effect would could cite is that ADV R2 releases are now much closer to the R1 releases dates.

There are still many people (majority) who prefer to buy R2 for the comfort factor of consumer protection. Not too mention the Customs delay is getting quite annoying now.

I wouldn't say it has much of an effect. The "casual buyers" (for lack of a better term) still make up the bulk of anime sales, so we're just the icing of the cake...

However, pleasing the anime fans is always a good thing: we're ALWAYS going to be buying DVDs, and the casual buyer may not be doing so :D

Im sure the great unwashed (ie anyone who doesnt post on here ) doesnt really care about the US sets and would rather get the UK DVDs.

In fact i have been known to get the UK DVDs of things over US sets, but i just feel that UK companies deserve my money more.

In many cases it'll simply be that they don't know about the US ones, or any potential advantages (whether it be price, problems with a particular UK release, or whatever). Why go to the trouble of learning how to buy things from the US (it's actually easy, but they don't know that) when you aren't even aware of any possible benefits?

I agree that in some cases people may specifically prefer to buy UK DVDs even when they know the choice is on offer, because they don't have a credit card, or because they perceive it as safer/easier to buy in this country. (As well as because they want to support the UK companies, which probably is something that only applies to hardcore fans.)
