Can't say I'm surprised. IGXP is a co-production-of-sorts, isn't it? Although it's interesting that the English has more channels than the Japanese... I don't believe that's ever happened on a R2J anime release, has it?

The recent re-release of Wicked City had both a 5.1 and 2.0 English while the japanese was only 2.0. Maybe making the English 5.1 was an attempt to catch international buyers, that is interesting nonetheless though. It also apparently has english subs according to CDJapan. This looks like BV trying to catch in some R1 buyers with their dvds by adding such stuff or maybe a lead in for their own R1 release of it.

Well as IGPX is not only a "US co-production" but rather a "created for US" kind of show it's definetly not a surprise. Somehow it's on the borderline and you might even consider the english track as being the "original track".

I think that IGPX is more an exception, due to the special nature of the show, rather than a rule.

However I would be pleased to be proven wrong and have others BV releases having english subs.

I swear I read that the show was being made to appeal to a Japanese audience, actually. I'd probably need more info on the show's production before I'd make a call on which is the original language... I consider English to be the original language for VHD: Bloodlust and Animatrix.

With those features (English sub + dub), it would be possible to literally use the same disc, if they use English text for the menus. Or the same disc except for two different copies of menu screen and different trailers...

(There has previously been at least one licensed title that worked like that between US and UK; the Animeigo release of Ah! My Goddess OAV was released in the UK by MVM, with identical discs. But afaik it's never happened between US and Japan... I don't really think it's all that likely but you never know I guess. )

The Bubblegum Crisis 2040 DVDs are simply the old R1's coded for R2. The international version of the original BGC is so similar to the R1's it leads me to believe they're the same discs. Also, CPM said years back that some R2's are just R1's with the coding changed. They didn't cite specific titles, of course, but something tells me the titles are probably obscure OAVs that CPM released on DVD and the Japanese company didn't want to invest in their own DVD production.

You could find out by running an encoding analysis. No two unique DVDs will have the same results.
