Does anyone own & can anyone post screen shots from the R2J To Heart releases? Is the reported poor video quality true, or just people repeating what others have posted on AoD & elsewhere? (stemming from Right Stuf presumably).
How do the laserdiscs compare to DVDs for quality?

I don't think TRSI ever claimed that the R2 DVDs were bad... the problem was that the masters they were given completely sucked. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean the R2s are good, either.

Here's some info:
Animephile Notice how the Japanese R2 and the Korean R3 are identical in terms of video |

Thanks for the link. Not being technical, are the feathering & distortion from poor DVD mastering, i.e would not be on LDs, or from the animation.
Both R2 & R3 boxes are so cute, but R2 wins. I love Gotoh designed characters almost as much as Akemi Takeda & Kenichi Sonada ones! Mod edit: removed bootleg link.

[/ QUOTE ] No, that's just source related problems. Has nothing to do with the medium. If the LDs used the same source then they would share the problems. |

Damn Wrath of the Njr, just be a little more patient! They'll be released next year. There's plenty of other things Anime to keep you busy until then. EDIT- and what they call "feathering" on that site is actual damage to the film. That's NOT something introduced during the authoring phase. Cutey Honey Flash suffers from it as well and came from a new component master.

Basically in the review he is saying that the source doesn't perfectly IVTC so there are residual combs coming through. Has to do with the way the 3:2 pulldown was done on the source. |

I thought he was talking about the damage at the bottom of the frames which can be seen at the bottom of #1 and the top of 2 and 3. My mistake.

[/ QUOTE ] "OH MY GOD, IT'S THE FLAWS OF LOW BUDGET CEL ANIMATION!" ::dies:: But seriously, To Heart didn't look "bad" at the time it was released on LD (and it was one of the transitional cel to digital animation titles, much like GTO and Eden's Bowy), but some may think it looks "bad" now that digital animation no longer is plagued with scene splices, bobbing, and other such problems, although still with most new anime we still get to deal with interlacing and other NTSC-related problems. I'd also keep in mind that Animephile tends to focus extremely on flaws with anime DVDs that I think most anime fans, even the hardcore videophiles, would consider minor imperfections. As for Right Stuf claiming they'll release better R1s than the R2s, I have to admit I'll believe it when I see it. Most RS releases seem to suffer from cross coloration; granted that comes with the terriority of Comic Party since its R2s have that problem - maybe the R2s of "Shingu" have it, too. Maybe not. I'm curious in what exactly RS is planning on doing in terms of remastering To Heart because I don't recall ever reading any specifics.
