A few spoilerific Fullmetal Alchemist questions

I just finished episode seven and I'm finding it a bit difficult to digest. I mean, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>a four year old girl? And her dog too? It's bad enough that he made them into a Chimera, but then it blew up as well...</span> [img]/images/graemlins/cry00000.gif[/img]

<span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'> Are they going to be killing off any more 4 year old girls, or something along those lines? </span> I'm not looking for details, just a heads up on what to expect. Except for the very end of the show of course. I'm pretty sure I once read what happens there.

That's what makes episode 7 so good! Well, they don't do the same thing twice in this show. Plenty of humorous scenes lie ahead, but you'll never be able to shake the oppressive atmosphere. Good and bad shit will happen, and it will be awesome. That's what makes it a great show.

Yeah, that's a harsh episode, but if you think from Scar's position <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>he was ending her suffering by blowing her up. Her dad was the real SOB</span>.

People die in FMA quite frequently. That's one of the reasons I like the show so much. Death isn't a gimmick and it fits in the story and setting.

Its what makes the series so good! This is the only anime that I've ever teared up due to people getting killed/dieing, everything is done soo great!

Killing four year old girls is not something that can EVER contribute to making a show good in my book. Death seems to be a part of the show but there are just some things that you just don't do, if you ask me. Well, at least it has happened now and we'll be moving on with stuff...

To me what horrified me was not the little girl’s death, but what her father did to her. I thought what Scar killing her was mercy. I think it makes it good in the fact the episode and the show itself gives you something to think about. It doesn’t take the easy way out and makes everything a happy ending. Considering one of the main show plots is the use of alchemy and use of military this ep fits into the story nice and isn’t just done to creep people out.

Of course. To me, death equals the point of transmutation, or what it was they call it. Blowing it up later just doesn't help much in my eyes, considering that an all-powerful alchemist might later have been able to undo the chimerisation perhaps... Well, you never know. And however this fits with the show's themes just doesn't do much for me. It's still sad as hell and I just don't like the choice the show's writers made here.

It doesn't help either that the Chimera kept saying "Let's go play" [img]/images/graemlins/cry00000.gif[/img] "Asobo" will forever have a different meaning for me...

And I hardly think too many shows take the easy way out and makes everything have happy endings, btw. Sure, romantic comedies usually go the way you expect, but then there's Chrono Crusade, Evangelion, (debatable, of course), Cowboy Bebop, Devil Lady and all sorts of other shows that end in varying degrees of misery.

That is exactly why I like it. You thought it would have been better for her to live even in her twisted form and I think that what Scar did was mercy and better. Which ever choice was made by the writers the story brings up something to thing about and debate with your friends. I like stories that do that.

Not all shows take the easy way out and that is good and I always like stories that don't do it. I didn't mean to imply that all shows do, just that this show doesn't and it makes it a better show I think.

Keep something in mind, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>the military were taking the Chimera away to experiment on right before it escaped.</span> Even if there might have been a slight possiblity that the situation could have been fixed in the future, <span style='color:#dddddd;background:#dddddd'>no one directly involved, other than Ed and Al, had any desire to do so and Ed and Al aren't in the best possition to protect the girl from the Military at this point. I'm blanking on the guy who was taking her away but it was clear to me at this point in the story he was shown in the episode to be a bitter rival to Mustang, who is Ed's boss. IMO Mustang would not have been able to do much to fix the situation (i.e. get the chimara back) because of the situation.</span>
