I have a question regarding the release of the Devilman TV series. I know a LE boxset was released, now out of print and only the singles are avaliable.
Instead of tracking down the LE box on Yahoo Japan, I was just thinking of buying the singles. However, I wanted to know if the box included any extras (aside from the T-shirt) that the singles don't have. Such as a clean opening or ending. Also, I wanted to know if the DVDs had the Devilman Memorial episode. (Although I think this is just a clip show) Thanks if anyone can help me out. |

My experience with Toei releases are that there are usually pack in bonuses with the box. Both Mazinger boxes had pack in books, as does Great Mazinger. The single releases are the SAME DVDs, minus the pack in bonuses and the, generally, excellent box. So you wouldn't be losing any VIDEO extras. The covers are the same for the DVD releases, with the exception that the DVDs generally have no UPCs on the box versions while the non-boxed versions have them.
An exception being the Cutie Honey TV box where you received an OST and extra DVD for buying the box. I don't think Devilman had such a pack in (extras disc that is) and all extras are on disc. According to CD Japan's listing for it, it appears to only have had a t-shirt and booklet. One other exception being Galaxy Express 999, as they made 29 single releases for it, rather than doing the DVD box releases (in boxes 2-5 there were a total of 5 discs in those boxes, while box 1 only had 4, with box 6 having a bonus DVD not available in the singles).

(along with the Mazinger Z vs. Devilman movie) Losing out on the T-shirt and a booklet doesn't bother me. And the Devilman box in'st as nice as the other Go Nagai series boxes. (it's completely white on the top and bottom of the box, which is just tacky looking) |
