Well, got to thinking about this when I was watching Nanoha A's ep. 11. In Fate's little dream world, Alicia gets referred to as the "older sister" by Linith, yet she looks a little bit younger than Fate (since she looks like Alicia at the age when she had almost died and was frozen).
Of course, there's a much more prominent example in World of Narue, where Kanaka looks younger than Narue but is actually a lot older due to her method of transport to Earth, and Narue ends up confusing Kazuto and friends at first by constantly calling her "big sister". This is not always a weird sci-fi case, either. There's also stuff like Ran in ep. 25 of Super GALS! when she freaks out over the thought of Miyu marrying her older brother, wondering if she will have to be respectful to her like a big sisters. Not just siblings, either, but also examples like Kotaro and Totaro in Hand Maid May. Totaro appears older, but since he's really a descendant of Kotaro he's much younger. This causes a big battle to ensue over who should speak politely to whom that makes them have a tense relationship right from the start. And with stuff like the Tenchi Muyo! OVA continuity, there's all sorts of age paradoxes all over the massive family tree, leading to some amusing situations. Whether brought on by usual or unusual circumstances, it something that's interesting to watch when it happens.

The wise, reserved older brother and the loud, crazy younger brother stereotype was shattered IMO in Sorceror Hunters. I absolutely believed that Marron was the older brother and Carrot the younger.

In Steel Angel Kurumi 2, Kurumi was Saki's older sister, but Saki joined Uruka's class at school, while Kurumi was a year behind in Nako's class.

Well, in Inuyasha, Kikyo is Kaede's older sister, but she only looks like it for the first half of the first episode.
Consideri ng Kikyo is killed in the first episode and is resurrected from the dead after 50 years have passed, it is understandable. |
