High School Girls #6 does a reintroduction to all the characters since they moved to a new Magazine. From the outset the volume starts funny and doesn't stop until the end.
The first chapter is the girls trying to start a club about beautifying themselves called the "Celeb club." It gets very funny when they ask Momoka to become the head of the celeb club. The next chapter is the beginning of a multichapter "arc" of sorts. The class goes on a hiking trip and 15 girls get lost. As expected lots of hijinks and stupid stuff going on in this. The ones after that focus on the Celeb Club trying to get new members for the club. As expected they use Eriko as a bad example of what a "sempai" is. The one after that is a touching and funny story about Momoka and Suzuki and how they live with each other and interact with each other. The last one is when everyone thinks Kouda will die because Eriko stumbled on her as she was practicing for her play. After that we see the panels that was supposed to be in the original releases. Then we are treated to a lot of raunchy 4 panel mangas that are quite funny with it ending with some more panels about 2nd year pine class called "2nd Year Memories." Personally, this volume is probably the funniest one so far in the entire series. I found myself laughing a couple of times in a chapter as opposed to laughing only a couple of times a VOLUME in the previous releases. The translation has gotten much better using honorifics right from the start. The big problem I have is them split ting up words in the wrong time and not use the dash to indicate that the word is continuing. From what I hear it seems that the japenese publication of this series is having troubles right now and odds are that we wont see the next one for a while. At leaast it ended off on a high note with it being one of the funniest volumes in the entire series. |

I thought there was an anime in the work which is usually a big boost to sales. I'll be rather disappointed if we do have an extended hiatus on this title. I think its probably the best comedy manga being published in English--it really should be DrMaster's breakout hit.

[/ QUOTE ] High School Girls was renamed in Japanse from Joshi Kosei to Joshi Kosei - Baka Gundan when it was moved from Weekly Manga Action to Comic High. It was in April 2004 that it was moved to Comic High. Then on August 2004 we hear that Comic High would be suspended for a redesign and wouldn't be republished until Winter. That means essentially that we wont get any more High School Girls until the series moves to a more regular publication in Japan once the Magazine get's off the ground. |

[/ QUOTE ] Over the last few months (at least since October/November when I was in Japan) Comic High has been going on a regular schedule (monthly) so we should see Futabasha eventually collect volume 7 by this summer. Over the last year or so, to keep interest in this one of their flagship titles, they have released bunko versions and now perfect collection versions of this 6 volume series. Unfortunately even if the magazine is on good footing it will still be in a monthly so the release schedule from now on will be slow. I am not sure of the Baka Gundan thing though. The gang always called themselves that but Futabasha still advertises this as just Joshi Kousei - ad for magazine and Official site.

[/ QUOTE ] It's good to know that Comic High is continuing like always. I didn't know that Comic High was a monthly magazine. That means that we will see releases for High School Girls every 7-8 months. Nooooooo........ Hopefully by then Dr Master will have it's bearings straight so they can publish the manga everywhere to give it the recognition it deserves. |

Just got my copy--it's pretty close to being my favorite volume of this series so far. Several laugh-out-loud moments.
