In what amounts to the smallest number of dubs in several years, the December 2005 award race emerges as a complete and total crapshoot where literally any dub or performance stands a chance of winning. With only 28 total dubs on the docket and no previous monthly dub winners, it's virtually guaranteed we'll see some new blood garner some time in the spotlight. Not to mention the 2nd finalist slot in the race to be named Best Dub of 2006.
Don't just assume we'll be picking from chopped liver, either. We've got some of the best directors in the industry contributing eligible titles this month including the likes of Jonathan Klein (The Melody of Oblivion), Chris Bevins (Samurai 7 and Burst Angel), Liam O'Brien (DearS), Kyle Jones (Madlax and Samurai Gun), Crispin Freeman (Scrapped Princess), Steven Foster (Gilgamesh and Ghost Stories), Tony Oliver (Planetes and Overman King Gainer), Rob Bakewell (Galaxy Angel A, Hikaru no Go and Tetsujin 28) and Jin Ho Chung (Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok). And with a mere handful of dubs to watch and plenty of extra time to screen them, you should have no trouble clearing through a bunch of eligible nominees from which to cast your votes. The monthly point structure hasn't changed... 5 Points for 1st, 3 Points for 2nd and 2 Points for 3rd. BEST ACTRESS
1. Brittney Karbowski as Reiya Ohshima (Loki Ragnarok Vol. 2) 2. Kira Vincent Davis as Mayura Daidoji (Loki Ragnarok Vol. 2) 3. Shannon Emerick as Loki (Loki Ragnarok Vol. 2) BEST ACTOR 1. Jason Douglas as Frey (Loki Ragnarok Vol. 2) 2. Illich Guardiola as Ryusuke Yamino (Loki Ragnarok Vol. 2) BEST DUB Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok Vol. 2 Well, there's only one thing I will be seeing this month, and since Loki Ragnarok was criminally overlooked last time (and I didn't get a chance to vote either), I think it's fair enough to go ahead and vote. Jin Ho Chung does solid work with this series as with Princess Tutu, and I will be looking foward to hearing more of this one too. Also hope to hear more from Brittney Karbowski in ADV dubs I check in the future (which going from her frequency in dubs lately, will likely be the case).

BigPants said: Actress: 1st - Brittney Karbowski (Fuko, Gilgamesh 4) [/ QUOTE ] Damn, we've gotta get our Gilgamesh support in sync one of these months. (Granted, I adored a lot of what we got our of Brittney in Volume 4.) All of your actor picks rock and I had to give both Chris and Brad plenty of consideration this month. And it's good to see that the GTP is on track in sharing the Sam7 love this time around. While Planetes was my fave of this month's shows, there was just no touching the quality and overall excellence of Samurai 7's ensemble cast on the dub barometer. Everything came together this volume and I'm just in awe with the sheer number of uniquely captivating characterizations Bevins is juggling here. It's downright awe-inspiring. The only thing that may loosen its hold on my 1st place vote is Bakewell's spin on Galaxy Angel once I finally track that collection down. |

Already seen:
Burst Angel Volume 5: Line in the Sand Fighting Spirit Volume 9: The Speed Star Madlax Volume 5: Convergence Planetes Volume 4 Best Actress 1. Luci Christian as Margaret - Madlax vol. 5 2. Monica Rial as Jo - Burst Angel vol. 5 3. Luci Christian has really impressed me in Madlax, it took me a while to think it was her, just doesn't really sound like her. She really pulls off the character, sounding distant/spaced out one minute and serious the next. Monica Rial as Jo is just interesting to hear after hearing her as characters at the other end of the spectrum (i.e. not deep voiced people). I'm kinda surprised it hasn't generated more buzz/votes, maybe others don't like it or haven't heard it. Best Actor 1. Kirk Thorton as Hachimaki - Planetes vol. 4 2. Steve Cannon as Ippo - Fighting Spirit vol. 9 3. Vic Mignogna as Carossesa - Madlax vol. 5 Giving a vote for Steve Cannon, he's been solid as Ippo and the overall dub is rather solid. Kirk Thorton has been impressive so far as Hachimaki, and with this volume really being centered on him, we got to hear him a lot. He gives a great performance. Vic Mignogna gives us something we really haven't heard from him before, since I can't think of another character he's done that's like Doon. Best Dub 1. Madlax vol. 5 2. Planetes vol. 4 3. Burst Angel vol. 5 This month is rather wide open, should be interesting who ends up winning. Seeing all these votes for Gilgamesh and Samurai 7 makes me want to see them more, but I can only move so quickly on the Netflix queue (too many shows, too little time), maybe I can catch up Sam 7 by the next award voting. It took a while to figure what my votes would be, it's been a while since I saw these shows (a few weeks, but the memory is not the greatest all the time). These votes are most likely final (except for the 3rd vote for actress, which I need to think more on) unless I change my mind or get a chance to hear any of the other dubs on the list.
