Default Genshiken

Just finished watching this brilliant show; though I am left wanting more. If I recall correctly, there is a second series being made right?

Also, can anyone tell me who the character standing there at the end of episode 12's credits was? I mean, everyone turned round to look...

Finally, just wondering, does the manga differ much from the show, as I might give that a look in.

That's the word, yes.

She's a character from the manga. I don't think she's shown up yet in the American publication, but Japanese audiences who knew the manga would have been familiar with her. Just a bit of fanservice to show her there, and a tease for a possible continuation of the anime adaptation.

From what I've seen, the anime followed the manga very closely, but the manga continues well beyond where the current anime leaves off.

Hmm; to read the manga, and possibly spoil the future series/s or forget it and give in to my cravings....

At most the anime consolidates or abbreviates a few things (like combining events from two Comifest events into one visit), but otherwise it follows the manga almost exactly. Volume 4 only has two chapters that don't appear in the anime, and the last chapter starts to answer your question about the mystery person, so it's worth picking up.

As for the worry about spoiling yourself: you'd be no worse off than the Japanese fans, most of whom have probably already read all the material that'll appear in season 2. It's still fun to see the story unfold with voices and motion added, and to anticipate how a favorite scene will turn out. Not to mention you'll be waiting a long time for more story (which stays funny by the way), so why wait longer than you have to?

You guys will all be supporting Ohno in the Anime Draft, right?

Heheh.. This discussion feels very similiar to a regular discussion among the Genshikan members about the ramifications of a manga adapatation into a anime.
I also just watched this the other day and was hit with nostalgia. Realizing one's inner otaku, joining a club, creating doujin, participating in a anime con, interacting with industry, and currently contributing to anime otaku-dom. (haven't reached building an anime-amusement park yet.)

Warning, Manga spoilers ahead..

Doesn't the "mystery girl" turn out to be Sasahara' s girlfriend later on in the manga?

Genshiken is such a great show, I'm so glad to hear that the show is getting a second season. I was worried since the next episode preview for episode 12 made it seem like it was cancelled. Since I pretty much embody some of those Genshiken characters, it certainly has a special place for me. The manga is great too, but I really think the anime, since it sticks so closely to the manga, sometimes does a better job since the character voices are very spot on.

...don't we all?

I guess that's why the show is so popular here.
