Hello,
I am having trouble with my Samurai 7 and Fullmetal Alcheimist dvds. I am using a phillips dvd-642 and I cannot get the angle icon to go away. My prior dvd players were a Samsung dvd-711 and a Cyberhome 300 and both had a clear button on the remote that could make it go away but now my Philips remote does not. I even tried picking up a cheap universal remote with a clear button but no luck.I've also tried switching the player from 16:9/LB/Fullscreen and changing all the settings with no luck. I did a search for this but found no related topics so sorry if this has been posted before. Any help would be appreciated.TIA

I have a Philips DVP642 and I haven't had any problems with the angle icon on Funi discs; there's no way to remove it manually as far as I can tell, but it disappears on its own about 10-20 seconds after the opening finishes. If it's staying on the screen for the entire episode, though, I don't know what to tell you, sorry.

It's certainly not a FUNi "issue," since you'd likely see it on ANY multiangle DVD.

Kat-It does turn off after the intro for Samurai 7 but for FMA it has the tendency to stay on for awhile after the opening is over.
slerch666-It's weird because even though it gives you the option of two angles each one is just the standard view anyways. I don't have any multi-angle dvds to my knowledge so your right that it could be any disc with them. Still weird that funi would encode the dvds to have two angles when they actually don't... Thanks for the help so far.I'll check for screen options when I get home tonight.

I also have a Phillips 642. I put in Samurai 7 vol. 3. The Icon stays on mine for the preview and opening, but it goes away afterwards. I think I do recall it staying on the whole time on one of my Funimation DVD's, though. Very poor design on Phillips for that part. It doesn't really bother me though because I have a few other DVD players in the house, and I really only bought my Phillips 642 to play my R2 DVD's.
Many Funimation DVD's do have two angles, but it's only during the opening and endings themes. |

[/ QUOTE ] Funi uses the angles for the Japanese/English Op/Ed, check your DVD player instruction manual to see if you can remove the icon

Some Toshibas are notorious for this, and there are other brands that share similar firmwares (common among generics) that exhibit this annoyance.

My Yamaha 5750 does the same thing. I believe that the 642 and the 5750 share some internal components, and so far I haven't found a way to get rid of the angle icon. I just decided to put up with it, since I <3 my dvd player even though it has that little quirk.
