Default Yakuza girl vs. Ninja girl

Lets say you had $40 in store credit at Digital Eyes. Would you get Jubei Chan 2 vol 1 with the artbox or the Gokusen collection (I have never seen GTO by the way) and why?

no contest, mang.

Jubei Chan 2

Better character-designs, better music, way way way better animation.

And ninjas always rulz and always wins! Even against combined pirates and zombies.

I enjoyed both of them about equally. I liked the comedy and story of Gokusen a bit more. I liked the action of Jubei Chan 2 much more.
In this situation I would buy Gokusen because you get the complete series, and that would be worth a lot more than a box to me.

Oh, and just out of curiosity, how does GTO figure into this decision?

Well, I've heard many people say that Gokusen was basically GTO with a chick.

That seems to be one claim but from what I've heard it's nowhere near as good as GTO. The old poor mans GTO phrase is a load of shit but I haven't seen it and I don't intend to so im just passing on what I've been told. I can't comment on the other show either...

OK. I cannot comment on that because I have not seen GTO either. But at least now I understand why you mentioned it.

I'd go with Gokusen, as Jubei-chan 2 was good but way too frantic at times. There were too many "out-of-character" references (where a character openly discusses how he's in a TV show or refers to events from the first season as if he watched it on TV), and while the battles were well animated, Freesia fights like a ferret on crack.

Although, if you're into that kind of manic comedy, go with Jubei-Chan.

I know I'd enjoy them both and would get them both if I could afford it, but I have the sneaking suspicion that as soon as I collect all the Jubei chan 2 singles they will announce a collection. So I guess that leaves me leaning toward Gokusen... or maybe Blue Gender. Crap I don't know.

The question is, have you seen season 1 of Jubei-Chan?

That's what I'd do as well.

And I've seen (and own) both GTO and Gokusen, and I like Gokusen much, much more.
