Default Which are the best "old school" dubs?

Not modern dubs on "old school" titles, but old dubs dubs done before shows were marketed specifically as anime - just cartoons.

So for example include any Streamline, Starblazers, Kimba, Robotech, Speed Racer, Marine Boy etc.

Tell ya what... I had to give it up to Speed Racer. Pete Fernandez and his gang did one hell of a job and had me hooked as a single digit midget.

That said, I would LOVE to redub the adventures of Go Mifune and the Mach 5 if the rights could be had or sublicensed. No doubt.

Damn did you just warm my heart. First off,
The Unico films have excellent dubs produced by Colombia pictures back in the early 80's.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Little Women.

The Original Lupin Mystery of Mamo dub.

Ziv Video's King Arthur.

Here's a decent list to keep you searching-

Soon as I saw this thread I knew you'd show up in it.

Of course this also reminds of how much Mike Breen used to pimp Starblazers around here, where ever he's gone to now.

But for myself, I woefully admit that while I've seen a good share of "old school" anime, it's been too many things without dubs. And with the likelihood of newly licensed old anime getting dubbed becoming almost nil these days, seeking out the old stuff that was back in its day should be a priority.

Personally, I loved the old Streamline Dirty Pair dubs. Wendee Lee and Laura Cody did a great job with the title characters. Not to mention, it's some of the first anime I saw so that nostalgia factor is there.

I'll always love Speed Racer, thanks to Peter Fernandez, Corinne Orr, and company.

Just like Our Man George, I grew up on Peter Fernandez's Speed Racer, so it has a warm place in my heart. But just like G, I'd love to see a complete release of Mach Go Go Go! That would make my willy tingle.

That was coming out when I was in high school. Me and a buddy of mine would watch it during the summer and then rave about how cool these Japanese cartoons were. I'd say Starblazers is one of the most influential reasons for why I'm an anime fan, still, more than 25 years later.

I also recall seeing Galaxy Express 999 at the drive-in theater during the summer of 1981 about a dozen times, and I loved it. I don't even know who dubbed that, but I sure do need that in my collection.

Edit: I did some checking on Wikipedia, and it says that Roger Corman did an English language version of the 1979 GE999 film in 1985. So maybe it was a subtitled version of the movie I saw? I just don't remember it being subbed. Maybe it was dubbed outside the US? I wonder what the hell I saw, then. I know it was definitely the summer of 1981, since it was between graduating high school and joining the Air Force.

Your memory is right. 1981 is when Corman's version came out.

This would not be the first time that Wikipedia was wrong.
