Default Is Angel Tales Worth Buying?

Since Bandai is coming out with the complete collection of Angel Tales, a series which I had slight interest in when it was new (never got around to watching it, though), I thought about checking into the series again.

For those that have seen it, how is it? I like the concept of re-incarnated pets in human form with some of their animal traits still present, but does it play out as well as it sounds, or is it a wasted opportunity? And is the cuteness/sugar factor high? I can stand a little but not when it's omni-present.

Honestly? No, not really.

Maybe if the second season were available it might be slightly more worthwhile.

But hey, it is better than Sister Princess!

Well....yes and no. But I'd go more with no, really. There are much better harem series out there. I thought the whole reincarnated pet thing would be neat, but it really wasn't.

Firstly, we have your typical loser guy with no personality who happens to have a whole slew of pretty girls living with him - 12, to be specific. And all the girls are either 1) Stereotyped and unoriginal 2)Annoying as hell or 3) Have no character developement. The girls practically make doormatts of themselves and fight over the main guy. There were only two characters who I could tolerate (but barely). It's sort of like a magical girl show too...but that was kinda weakly executed.

I dunno what to say. If you are a guy who likes really cute anime girls and a cute concept, you may like it.

I am trying to think of a series I enjoyed LESS than Angel Tales - and I'm drawing a blank. (Tho I will admit to not having seen Sister Princess, so there could indeed be worse shows out there).

A terrible harem series with a terrible premise. Goro (aka the Grim Reaper) has the pets that died in his care (and for some reason they want to come back - one or two ok, but 12? Sounds like a serial killer) come back as girls of various ages to live with him. And they all remember him fondly, because we know critters such as goldfish form serious attachments to their human "master". Held together by the bond of bad harmonica music, they have boring crisises and get jealous of each other and have to deal with the little quirks carried over from their animal forms, and about this time my brain leaked out my ears so I can't remember how it ended except that it continued to be really bad. I kept hoping they would all die again to spare me some of their inane chatter, but no luck.

In short, pick a title at random out of a list and buy it instead - I guarantee it will be better.

The second season certainly has some interesting moments. I found the first season decent, but at best it's the type of series that one should try to get cheap. While at the same time anyone who dislikes harem anime or isn't a huge fan of it is probably better off avoiding it.

Well in some ways yes, but the balance between the focus on the girls in Sister Princess is better. Yes I'm still bitter about the lack of Midori focus in Angel Tales. Then again at least the girls in Angel Tales can focus on someone else besides their Master for five minutes...

It has a role to play in the sense of giving the series an excuse to have an ending and as the reason they are together. However beyond that the role is not that major. In other words it plays a medium sized role at best. Or something like that.

The best part of the second season is the episode where Momo has her first period.

...really. I can't think of a single other anime to tackle that topic, and if any have, they were probably Shoujo shows.

Generally guys don't even want to KNOW...

I enjoyed Angel Tales more than most people around here did, but I would still have to go with the majority and say that you could probably find something better to do with your time and money.

I am not sorry that I got and watched it. But I did not like it enough to recommend it.
I don't think that cuteness would be a problem for you. To me it did not seem like the show was super cute, even though some of the girls were. Especially Kurumi the hampster. Of course, considering my tastes, what is not cute enough for me might still be way too cute for you.

The "Venomous Tails" shorts that were included as extras were pretty good. They may have been better than the show. I thought that I would throw that in just to complicate things.

If you can get it really cheap and you need something to watch right now, or if what you have read here looks good to you, then it might be worth a try.

It's been too long since I've seen the episode, but that was one of the more memorable episodes from the second season since it stands out due to that aspect. I can't think of another series that tackles the subject of the period. Especially the first period and in an actually serious manner. Maybe I have seen some, but it's hard to remember every series.

It sounds like a harem show for the most part, and I hate harem shows so I'll stay away from this title. Thanks for the advice!
