Default Bootlegger Arrests at Motor City Comic Con

Today at the Motor City Comic Con in Novi (near Detroit), several people were arrested because of bootleg dvds. I was there when it took place and about half way through looking at all the aisles of merchandise, while glancing at some dvds, we (my boyfriend and I) were told to move away and that this booth was being shut down by the Novi police. It happened again at another table in another aisle with dvds. We started noticing that not just the police were there, some people wearing RIAA shirts. When we were about to leave, I noticed there were several dealers with handcuffs on. A lot of the dealers had tv shows. However, some had anime. I noticed Sailor Stars at several of the booths before those particular ones were shut down. Another one had a lot more anime selections. Plus a few booths had bootleg copies of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (it has a different box from the one released a few weeks ago). Nothing was really mentioned on the news about it. However, my mom said she briefly saw it on a channel and said seventeen were arrested in the raid. Just thought I would mention it. I was wondering if anyone else had witnessed it.

Wow.

DVD bootleggers are very prevalent at comic conventions. They mainly sell "grey" material - US cartoon shows and live action series from the 80s and 90s that haven't been released. They even have DVD burners on the convention floor. So blatant. I hope that this incident is not the first and these bootleggers will find other means to make their illegal money.
