Which is better for auctions and fixed price listings, flat shipping rates or calculate cost? Suggestions?

For my auctions I use flat rate shipping. This works well for me because all of my auctions are basically the same when it comes to shipping, so it allows me to advertise combined shipping discounts and such much easier.

I almost never bid on auctions that say 'calculate shipping'. Seeing the Calculate link is a big warning sign that the seller hasn't done his homework and doesn't know how to use the post office very well. Sellers that know how to pack well and know the postal rates tend to charge Flat Rate, and reasonable ones at that.
Flat rate is one of the "little gimmies" that will attract bidders. |
