Bleach (Volume 14) Viz Media (Shoujo Beat)
Artwork edit: Vol 14, chapter 116, page 28 Extra smoke has been added to cover Yoruichi's naked body.

The original thread notes that the Viz GN (which is not Shoujo Beat) matches the Japanese GN. The difference is between the serialized and collected Japanese versions and should not be considered an edit by the American company.

[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure that's confirmed. The post I assume you're referring to (here) appears to be talking only about the "foot" issue, not the "smoke" one.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, I am getting my copy in most likely by the end of the week. If no one else provides pictures to confirm the smoke edits, I can provide pictures.

Edit: Someone else will need to provide JP images of the foot issue mentioned in the Bleach thread. The smoke issue has already had an image provided. I'm not that far into the JP release.

Yeah, that's my understandiong of the Bleach 14 issue.

The added smoke to cover more of the naked body appears to change between the Japanese GN and Viz GN. Would be nice to see the ZViz version to know for sure.

The foot issue appears to be a change between the mag release and the Japanese GN. If that's the case, it won't be an issue.

I'll change Bleach to Shonen Jump label. I guess all the pretty boys faked me out (never really followed Bleach at all).

The first printing of the first volume was released uncensored. Later editions were censored, though.

[/ QUOTE ] yeah, I mentioned the reprinted vol 1 in the first line, but I added soem more detrail in the main text.

[ QUOTE ]

Only the first volume was censored. Swastikas appear unaltered in later volumes. (And there's a billingual version of GTO 1, so it is possible to get an unaltered English version of this volume.)

[/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the confirmation (I was uncertain if it was only vol 1 and not a couple early volumes that had this change).

Thanks, I've added that link to the list.

What was censored from SailorMoon? I'm not aware of any edits...

[/ QUOTE ]

This one is real foggy in my mind. I don't have the details, but I know they used the DIC names in Mixx's first version of SM. But it's so long ago I don't recall all the details of other edits made at the time.

Yeah, I misread. It is the foot that was definitely changed from serial to GN and not from Japan to America.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there were no actual visual edits, just lots of name changes and a translation of varying quality.

Original Neji and VIZ's Neji -- this of course applies to every shot of him where the mark is visible, just scanned this one page from chapter 102.

Wanted to note that I edited my earlier reply above to include the neji pics. I won't leave these images up indefinitely, but I'm in no rush to take them down at the moment.

That one is a tough one. This was a change done by Hojo Tsukasa himself. Actually Coamix/Gustoon only got to print one (I believe) of his changes to CitiHun before they closed shop.

He covered up one of his cabaret bar dancers areola with star shaped pasties. (I think that was it. I'll confirm that tonight as I don't have my books in front of me)

Well, no matter who did it or 'okayed' it, it's still an edit made for the US release and it'll be on the list.

The old 'the original artist okayed it/did it him/herself' is just a convienent excuse for companies to dodge complaints. I've heard it too often and seen to many companies misrepresent who gave the consent, why they gave it, and what the US company told them to convince them to okay the censorship to give such claims much credibility.

In the end, the US release is edited and that is unacceptible to me.

Yes, he did cover it up with star shaped pasties. Regardless of the manga being edited, it doesn't really matter since it was the creator making the edits of his own volition. Should that even be considered an edit if the creator wants to change their own work?

Considering Hojo had a vested stake in the company himself and it was his own work he chose to edit (no one forced or asked him to), I can't see a reason to complain about it being "edited". I mean, he's the creator and its his work, he can do whatever he wants with it. I'd object if it was the company that published it requested he do it or something, but nothing like that happened.
