Well, if there's a thread for this somewhere, it was either made before April or doesn't have "code" in the subject line, because I couldn't find it.
This is just the placeholder first post, so I can reply with spoilery stuff in a subpost. But the basics are... future earth, the UK is a world empire that has conquered at least North and South America and presumably all of Europe as well, and before the series starts, Japan. Japan was renamed Area 11, and its people '11s', and they live as second class citizens under aristocratic Britannian control. The show is primarily mecha, action, and I guess a bit of sci-fi as well. The official website is geass.jp

Anyway, I just watched episodes one to four so this post will contain spoilers for those four episodes.
I'll say flat out that the reason I watched this show in the first place was Karen (is the official romanization Kallen though? She's been going by that for a lot of people). Saw an image of her on Danbooru and that sealed that. So, anyway, when I watched episodes one and two just now, I was struck with... well, confusion. But a lot of people were being killed and the main character was a bit insane and Karen was sexy, so I was certainly enjoying it enough. It's started to make a good bit more sense with episodes three and four though. Lelouche is actually a member of the Britannia royal family, although his current political situation seems confusing. His mother was killed in an internal power struggle, but his brother Clovis, who Lelouche has killed, seemed to get out of the internal strife and managed to become a ruler of Japan. The story and pacing have been strange, though not bad. With episode four it really started to settle into a groove, and the standoff during Clovis' funeral procession was flat out great. Lelouche is a bit of an overly dramatic guy, but I enjoy him greatly. Karen currenty plays the role of a sickly student in Lelouche's school as a cover. None of the '11s' themselves know that Lelouche is the one helping them out, and he wears a really cheesy (but fun) costume to hid that identity... Anyway, I'm liking this show muchly so far. The character designs are by CLAMP, and they're really lanky and awkward at times, but on the whole the animation and character design quality is very, very good. It remains to be seen where the show will go, but I have pretty high hopes. Good stuff. Edit: oh, how did I forget... ANOTHER LESBO STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT! XD

Is this the one with the mechs that look ridiculously like Eureka Seven's?

This is the show with the character designs done by CLAMP. I don't think the mechs look like Eurkea Seven's... Maybe that's Strain you're referring to. *shrug*

The only one with any real resemblance though is the main robot "Lancelot," mostly in terms of body proportions. Geass is great though. The pacing doesn't let up, the action sequences are fantastic, the characters likeable and interesting and the animation is great. I didn't expect any less from the team behind this. |
