Seeing as how the holidays are quickly approaching I thought it was time to start putting together my holiday wishlist. I'd like to add a game or two to the list, however lately I just can't find anything that seems to interest me. What I'd really like to do is upgrade to an Xbox 360, being seeing as how that's beyond my price range (for now), I'm forced to choose from current-gen games. I own a PS2, Xbox, and GC, and so anything from those three will do.
However, I've become really jaded within the last couple of years and I just can't seem to get into games as much as I used to. I used to love fighting games and RPGs, but now I can't stand the former and can barely tolerate the latter. The last RPG I bought was Valkyrie Profile 2 which I hated for various reasons. Out of the current crop of RPGs released or being released (FF12, .hack/GU Vol.1, Tales From the Abyss), none of them really looking like something I could get into. So that basically leaves me w/ action games, which I've been becoming more interested in lately. Loved RE4 on the GC, and found Yakuza on the PS2 to be surprisingly fun (though lacking in the replay value). The catch here though is that I've been burned by a lot of popular PS2 action games within the past year, including Shadow of the Colossus (beautiful game but not something I'd replay), Devil May Cry 3 (just didn't like the style), and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams (Dynasty Warriors w/ smaller levels = me cutting vegetables). I've never been into the GTA series, and I'm not a big fan of Nintendo games, so that doesn't really leave me w/ much to choose from. I've been considering either Okami or the newest Zelda game (just b/c it looks interesting), however I've already been burned by Capcom too many times to give them the benefit of a doubt anymore. So, can anyone come up w/ some good recommendations for this increasingly jaded gamer? I'll accept any RPG recommendations assuming that they're fun. |

Well in terms of RPGs, FFXII is excellent and it's something different, but.. if we're talking action games, then I've also got some stuff to recommend:
Zelda: Yeah, it'll be great on the Cube. Okami: You might have been burned by Capcom before, but this is something in a completely different league than most offerings. Splinter Cell: Double Agent - I dunno if you're a fan of the series, but the Xbox version is completely different from the 360 version and it's supposedly better in a lot of ways. Guitar Hero - Everyone loves Guitar Hero. Everyone. |

You honestly sound like me before I got addicted to everything that was modern Nintendo (ie the DS and now the Wii). It's not as much Nintendo's first party games as much as the 3rd party games, like Trauma Center, that are pulling me in.
Anyway, here's some random game recommendations... If you played and loved Sega Genesis games back in the day, you'll probably love Sega Genesis Collection for PS2. If you haven't played them, this game gives you no excuse. You get about 28 games for $20. Three of the games on the collection are the great Phantasy Star series (well, PS2-4), as well as Vectorman 1-2, Golden Axe 1-3, Altered Beast, Sonic 1-2, and lots more. For filling the part of you that likes fighting games and also with something new, how about Victorious Boxers 2? This is one of the best boxing games out there and is based on the awesome anime Fighting Spirit (Hajime no Ippo). This is also super cheap, retailing at $10. Have you ever played music games? Do you like rock music? I honestly can't recommend Guitar Hero and its new sequel Guitar Hero 2 enough to people. The games are incredibly fun to play and have great music. That's all I can think of for now without more of a feel for what games you like.
