Default The GameFAQs forums Next Gen Gaming forums

Out of all the forum sections on GameFAQs this one has to be the most retarded of them all. I mean you are most likely to find topics on how AAA games are defined by their review scores, tool/drone/bot namecalling, etc.

Who here agrees on this

GameFAQS is, 99% of the time, a complete waste of time. Those 360/Wii/PS3 general forums especially are a joke as roughly 90% of the "discussion" is trolling, useless information about how one company is doomed this week and flame wars. Go into the forum for pretty much any new 360 or PS3 game and you'll find endless comments about how the game has a better version or better rival on the other console. Go to most new Wii game forums and it's just people bitching about graphics or how they hate the Wii controls.

There are some decent people there though (not that I browse it regularly) and it can come in very useful for translations, walkthroughs and general advice but more often than not I find it a headache.

Heheh, bitching about the Wii or which version of a game is better sounds exactly like me. Looks like I found a better place than AoD to post.

...no, not really.

Most Wii discussions I've seen there are about how every game for it is a "non-game"

Can't say I disagree... while they (from what I've seen) can't make an argument to save their life, I admit that I am sick of seeing mini-game collections. I honestly haven't felt any need to turn the system on since December.

Oh...I kinda thought the reason the games for the Wii were called non-games was because they are played with a remote and not a joypad

That's partially true for me too. Since Bleach at the end of December up until last week since when I've been playing Kororinpa quite a bit, my Wii was used for the Virtual Console most of the time.
There's Naruto next week, Sonic, Densha de Go and Tsuri Master in March, with Paper Mario in April (not to mention Cooking Mama, whenever my copy turns up) for me personally and that's about it.

I just find it really odd that it's alright to bash the PS3 for seemingly having no games at the minute when, IMO at least, Resistance, Motorstorm, Ridge Racer 7 and Virtua Fighter 5 only really have Zelda as competition on the Wii, with everything else more or less being some sort of mini-game based title (not counting the cost issue but I really don't want to get into the pros and cons of the PS3 "debate" again).

You know for a forum that's considered pure evil and responsible for ending life on Mars, Gamefaqs sure seems to be popular. I mean people talk about it often enough that I wonder if they secretly enjoy visiting it sometimes. Then again it could be that some base their hatred off what others say.

Personally I think the thing to remember is Gamefaqs is a large place with a lot of boards. It has lot of forums users. The more forums users the higher chance to find both intelligent posters and complete idiots. Of course the idiots are easier to remember because they stand out.

Although let's not kid ourselves. Most people are only going to visit select boards there. I mainly visit the two RPGs boards and boards related to games I like. Well some of them anyway. In some cases I just lurk and in other cases I post.

There is also the problem of linking. Sometimes the idiocy is more pronounced because I'll visit one forum there. A poster will link to a topic on another forum often to gripe about what he feels is a stupid topic. Thus I'm being shown the bad side of a forum I never visit at Gamefaqs.

I go for the FAQ's but like most places I stay the hell away from the message boards. Something about the internet, video games, fanboyism, and anonymity turn people into idiots.

In the past, I did visit the forums, but I did not experience any idiots there. However, I noticed that the administrators would ban more than twenty people a day, the majority for using racist or homophobic language. If this is an accurate reflection of gaming fandom, I would rather not be a fan.

As for the gaming FAQs, I mostly find them useful, but I hate the fact that some authors have a high opinion of themselves, or they contain nonsense information.
