Since we've already veered into manga land, let me just mention Hot Gimmick, which was quite cool until it suddenly swirled down a toilet bowl the size of the Andromeda Galaxy at the end, in several ways chief among which was the girl ending up with the wrong guy for absolutely no reason that made sense. To bring it back to anime, I think there was talk about animating this and the manga artist said she might authorize changing the ending, which I gather many fans hated...

One aspect of the ending of Honey & Clover II left an unpleasant taste in my mouth, though for more complicated reasons than "she chose the wrong guy." I approved wholeheartedly of how things were resolved between [hide]Hagu and Takemoto[/hide] and [hide]Hagu and Morita[/hide]. But I just had a lot of trouble with [hide]Shuu's romantic attachment to her,[/hide] and even though [hide]her staying with him and letting him support her[/hide] was obviously the best outcome on all sides, that tainted the relationship for me.

In a story that made me sympathize very keenly with romantic longings of all kinds, I just never saw romantic feelings [hide]for Hagu on Shuu's part. I much preferred it when I was able to think of their relationship as being father/daughter or brother/sister in nature.[/hide] In fact, that type of deep, familial/friendly connection can be and often is much more touching than romance. Despite the pairings in H&C, it's ultimately much more about the kind of friendships that last far beyond romance. [hide]Hagu's gift to Takemoto[/hide] reflected that theme so perfectly; I wish that [hide]Shuu's reason for working so hard on her behalf had been the same kind of emotion that drove her to search for so many four-leafed clovers.[/hide]

Am I the only one who liked that pairing? Miwa was an okay guy but I never really liked the idea of Miwa/Meiko in a long-term relationship. I just couldn't see her being happy.

I suppose. After all, I created the thread.
Oh, good point. Well, in that case, what did you intend by the original question -- I was just basing that on the way it had been answered so far. Maybe that wasn't what you meant, though. "Right" and "Wrong" is pretty arbitrary.

As far as Kimi ga Nozomu Eien goes... [hide]Both girls would have been the wrong choice. Too much drama for one single human being.[/hide]

No, no, you had it right. I just wanted to make sure if I had the right person in mind when he mentioned Ranma. I was actually a bit surprised.

Also, Nagisa in Strawberry Panic. Totally chose the wrong girl.

Honestly, I feel bad for whoever ends up with Nagisa "I like cake" Aoi. Poor [hide]Shizuma[/hide]...

The one who really f'ed it up was Hikari. While she spent all of her time fawning over her prince, the one that was truly right for her was right under her nose. Even when she couldn't hold back any longer, they split up and then reconciled... >//////<... god I hate Hikari.

I disagree with that assessment: in many ways, she is the kindest and most decent character in the series. ("More than Kasumi" you ask? Yes, more than Kasumi.)

Nope, I'm also quite satisfied with who Meiko ended up with. Miwa was okay, but not for her. I think most people seem to dislike the anime version because of how the anime made Nan-chan into something of an ass (though I didn't see the last volume of the anime, so no idea how they really finished it out). In the manga, he was never that bad and he was a great match for Meiko.
