Default Genshiken (anime vs manga)

Hey, I was wondering if anyone here can tell me if there are any differences between the anime and manga, or if it's just a straight copy of the manga. I'm a big proponent of an anime adaptation adding their own ideas into the story, so that manga fans won't be able to telegraph every moment in the anime.

I ask this because I read the manga, but haven't tried the anime because it just seems like a straight adaptation of the manga, which doesn't interest me.

20 views and no responses? Too bad. I'm about to go out right now and was going to check out the anime in town.

IIRC it's very similar and I did prefer the manga where they deviated at all (they compressed/combined some things to tighten up the plot). However, you do get the KujiUn OAVs which are worth the price of admission if you're into that to flesh out the universe a little. They're silly and pointless but oddly enjoyable, and some of the gags amused me

As Yuriko said the only deviance from the manga is some compression and combination of some events (things from the winter and summer conventions are combined, for instance). And, of course it only goes a few volumes in, right before Ogiue shows up, pretty much. But I still love it for the sake of the manga characters coming to life. The voice casts are great--the English dub is a classic--and of course, again as Yuriko mentioned, you get the Kujibiki Unbalance shorts. I don't regret buying both versions of Genshiken, and the anime actually enlivened the manga experience a little for me, giving the paper and ink characters more life.

Not much more to say on it, I guess. (But it's also only three volumes.)

I haven't read the manga, but I don't think it detracted from my enjoyment of the series. It may have even increased my enjoyment since I didn't have any preconceived notions of where it was going. It was one of the more amusing series I watched last year, and definitely worth picking up.
