The other night, I had a dream in which I was the fat, black champion of a dueling (as in, with rapiers) league in Japan. (IRL, I'm a slightly overweight white guy.) When I told a friend about this dream, she said I watch too much anime. I retorted that there's no such thing as too much anime.
Then last night, I dreamed I was a kendo instructor in Japan, and inexplicably, I advocated the use of real katana rather than the wooden training swords (bokken?). Toward the end of the dream, a hot Asian woman in a flame-print spandex unitard and black thigh boots showed up and challenged me. We fought briefly (while simultaneously flirting outrageously) before ending up on the ground with me straddling her. I leaned in for a kiss, but just as my lips were literally millimeters from hers... I woke up. So... yeah. Maybe there is such a thing as too much anime. ![]()

My general rule of thumb is, if I am worrying I am watching too much, then I am probably watching too much. I'm not really the type to rely on others to decide when enough is enough of anything, but whenever the thought 'Am I watching too much?' crosses my mind, I slow down a little. No point worrying over something like that when there is such an easy fix ![]() |

Anyways, I dream about anime characters with a fairly high degree of regularity, though it's rarely if ever within the context of the anime. It's more like I'll be having a normal dream (not that my dreams are ever really normal) and one of the other people in it will simply be Orihime. Or Shizuru. Or Primula. They don't even necessarily do anything they do in the anime, but, they're there. I guess it's just a matter of things you thought about during the day coming up as you sleep, inserting themselves into your dream in weird places. But at the time, it seems perfectly normal. It's not like I stopped and thought "woah, she's an anime character!" I just wish I could remember some of my dreams. I almost never can, even though I know that they're regularly things I could totally pitch to movie studios... ah well =P

And what you are talking about is a Shinai. That is the bamboo fighting stick used in Kendo. It is significantly different from a bokken which is used to practice swordfighting. While Kendo was developed from swordfighting techniques, much the way fencing was developed from actual swordfighting, they are very different in actual use. A Kendo master, for example, would not necessarily be able to pick up a bokken or katana and be able to use it with any skill. In reality, he/she probably could but that would be because of extra training and learning that they did. This is similar to how just because you have a black belt in Karate or Judo does not mean a street punk couldnt beat the living crap out of you. Its the difference between theory and practical application. Personally I wouldnt worry to much about it. Dreams are just that, dreams. They are the mind's way of organizing information previously collected. So if you were watching something earlier, then it is no surprise you might dream about it. Just like you might dream about fighting aliens and flying through space if you just got done watching a full season of Star Trek or Babylon 5. Now if you start dreaming of forming your own harem based off the girls you know in real life that you'd never have a chance at....well...perhaps then...

Only when you have done these things will you be ready to dream about battling hot Asian women in spandex with your long, hard... sword. :D

You mean my dream where I was driving down the road and my car transformed into the head of Voltron with me being the head wasn't real
With that said I have had times where I've marathoned a series or a manga and thats all I can think about for the rest of the day. It reminds me of when I did that to GTO and that weekend I'd call people characters names and so on since it was all buzzing around in my head. I don't think that I ever dreamed about an anime, maybe FMP once. I can't remember exactly but I could of swore I had a school type dream with Kaname or someone in it. Although it was when I had a bad case of the flu so that probably had something to do with it as I remember falling asleep to FMP.
