Default Could we see ANOTHER Gundam Wing release?

It worked for Bebop, so why not one of Bandai's most popular series, Gundam Wing? According to Bandai Visual(the Japanese wing, haha puns) the series will get a remaster. animeOnline explains it as..

Quote:
Bandai Visual has announced that starting Aug 24, Gundam Wing will be re-released on 12completely remastered and dolby-digitally enhanced DVDs. The DVDs are retailing for ¥6300 a piece, or you can get two boxsets for ¥37,800, which saves you exactly...nothing, but you get a cool box.

AVWatch also has a webpage up that says Endless Waltz is getting a remaster to be released on Oct 26, although it's possibly just the OAV sans compilation movie.
So with the original box set, the movie/OVA, the anime legends box sets, the anime legends movie, do you think this will ever make it state side? I'm a huge Gundam Wing fan but I already own the original release of the movie(uncut of course) and the original box. So who knows if it'll be worth it the way Bebop wasn't.

Although what I'm note clear on and if someone could help me are they talking about making a 5.1 track and remastering the video for Wing and Endless Waltz rather than just giving it the "hey, we made a fake 5.1 track" treatment? If so I might have to take a look at the release.

BV is merely milking the cashcow with Gundam Wing.

They know they'll find some crazy rapid fangirl/fanboy who wants everything Gundam Wing, there is still a pretty big fanbase for it.

12 DVDs? That seems out of chracter for BV. Are sure its not going to be 50+ DVDs or 20+ DVDs?

It just came out in what, 1996 or something? It's been released how many times now? Why remaster it, it seems perfectly good as is. Unless they are going to give it an HD version, then maybe I could understand, but otherwise.. yeah.

BV, do something useful and remaster the original Mobile Suit Gundam, a better series than GW IMHO and it needs a remasteringness.

I rambled too much.. but I know one thing - If I have to see another Gundam Wing boxset in the next 2-5 years, somebody rip my eyeballs out...

12 DVD's for that many episodes in Japan may be a god send heh. With that said if they do a complete video remaster like they're saying with a added "true" DD 5.1 track, I'd sadly probably buy it if Bandai brought it over in a set. Bandai Visual has been on a kick recently remastering and rereleasing a bunch of Gundam sets in Japan. The last two if I remember right were 0083 and 08th MS Team. Still though I'm wary when it comes to wing especially after what happened with Bebop remastered. Sure it was nice having a 5.1 track, but that was pretty much it.

*sigh*

People don't read.

This is a remaster by Bandai Visual JAPAN, not Bandai Entertainment in America.

I'm very well aware its BVJ not BUSA. The topic is "Could we see ANOTHER Gundam Wing release?"

Let me repeat and rephrase.

BUSA would bring it over to our shores if they could get more $$$ sooner or later, they are both the same company. That's where audiofreaks, hardcore Gundam fans, rapid fangirls/boys and various other customers would come in, they'd buy just about anything GW-associated and my bet is, if BUSA decides to milk the cashcow, it'll be 2-5 years before we see these on the shelves under a new "Platnium Puppy Edition" or "Purple Muffin Collection". I felt like taking a jab at BV's 1-2 Episodes per DVD habits for both Japan and America. It seems you didn't quite read my response very well or understand it.

08th MS Team remaster... mmm. Now I'd dip for that, it was one of my favorites. I'm surprised they haven't remastered original MSG, or have they?

Now if you'll s'cuse me, I'm off to sleep.

Actually I think that they're finally JUST putting it out on DVD according to CDJapan heh. Now if the remaster was on the level of the Eva Platinum remaster, then I might consider it if it ever came over here. But if it's basically a reencode like Agent Aika got(ugh) with a DD track slapped on then ugh..

I assume that Bandai Ent. still has the license to Wing so I guess it depends if they want to bring it over again or not. It's a pain in the ass as the DVD's are around 50 bucks a pop R2 wise, so I can't see to many people importing it unless it's a breathtaking remastering job.

FYI it's rabid. And yes, Wing is popular, but it has yet to receive a remastered release whereas a lot of other things have.

However so far we've yet to receive any R2 gundam remasters here for UC things so I dont hold the chances very high.

You don't understand R2 Gundam all too well, or R2 releases in general. This is an old TV show, not a current or old OAV release. 12-13 has been sort of a standard form for just about every TV Gundam released over there.

You're acting as if 1996 was just a minute ago, despite how it feels, it is eleven years old. It was still be recorded on materials used back in the 80's. It's previous DVD releases (five boxes, I think) weren't remastered, they still looked okay, but as you said, this is going to be a HD remaster so why not? Besides which I think Wing has been out of print there for a while anyway.

MSG has been remastered there. I thought you were getting the two mixed up, BVUSA and BVJapan, and I think you might.

I'm not entirely sure where you're aiming at here dude, but the reason theres been 'so many' boxsets of wing in the US is because they've gone and resolicited it so many times. Most of these, if not all of them, are only aesthetic differences, versions meant to keep it fresh on the shelves. It doesnt clog.

Umm.. what? You're getting confused, or not making a whole lot of sense. OP asks if there would be a re-release and you go on about some tangent of 50 DVD series and what not all the while never specifying which BV you're going off at (one is related in R2 land, the other is a US company completely uninvolved, unlike their sister, BEI).

Except BVUSA aint BEI as I said, and those super happy puffy mushroom versions are re-releases meant to keep it on the market rather than expiring in one go.

No, because your post/s are filled with topic dodging illogical rants that don't entirely make any sense. You're raging at BVUSA for possibly putting out Gundam Wing, when we're talking about BVJapan and BEI. The Bandai who releases Gundam is not the same Bandai that releases $40 2 ep Gunbuster 2 DVDs.

As said, remastered in japan. 08th MS Team was recently done in 5.1 with a new HD remaster so you might want to check that out, theres a thread in the R2 forum for that.

If Bandai releases it remastered and in 5.1 Japanese audio (don't care about the dub), I'm all for it.

There was no DVD release of original MSG in Japan until recently with the release of the 2 R2J boxsets for the original series recently. The video was remastered and very much cleaned up. It looks great. How do I know? Well, I bought them 2 R2J boxsets.

p.s. And no episode was expunged either! (For those who have heard about the director not wanting a certain episode to be released)

I so hope this means R1 can finally get a subbed DVD release of Gundam TV at some point; hopefully with the episode Tomino wanted removed. I could care less about a W re-release. It is one of the more bland Gundam series. The fact that it was twice as long as it had any right to be doesn't help. I'd rather see ZZ, X, and Victory get some kind of release before anyone goes and re-releases Wing.
