Is there any difference between the limited edition version of air blu-ray and the new packaging edition? Besides of course the different packaging. Does the limited edition include any extras?

  • Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini (6 volumes)

Default Winter 2010 Series to be released in Japan on BD

Here's a round-up for Winter 2010, continuing what I did last season:

  • Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (6 volumes)
  • Cobra the Animation (7? volumes)
  • Chuu Bra!! (4 volumes)
  • Dance in the Vampire Bund (6 volumes)
  • Hanamaru Youchien (6 volumes)
  • Hidamari Sketch Hoshimittsu (6 or 7 volumes)
  • Ladies vs. Butlers! (6 volumes)
  • Katanagatari (probably 12 volumes)
  • Ookami Kakushi (6 volumes)
  • Seikon no Qwaser (looks like 8 volumes)
  • Sora no Oto (6 or 7 volumes)

The good news is that it's getting to the point now where it's more efficient to list the shows that won't get a simultaneous BD release. This season confirmed so far we have Durarara!! and Omamori Himori for sure DVD-only, with Nodame Cantabile Finale in the "maybe" category (no announcement yet).

Edit [2010-01-15]: Added Hanamaru Youchien
Edit [2010-02-01]: Added Cobra the Animation

Not too surprising with Durara since it's mostly male characters. I wouldn't expect it to be a runaway hit with otaku on Blu-ray (and fujoshi don't care so much about HD), although the animation & story are decent so far. It's actually airing in HD though, unlike Omamori Himori which is just a crappy 480i upscale.

Why do they even bother animating in HD if they won't release in HD? Eh, well, I guess it lets them rerelease it down the line, and I'm not gonna object to getting HD for the initial airing (glad CR got a 720p option on this one). At least the two shows I'm likely to buy this season are getting BD releases (Hidamari is a definite, Sora no Woto is looking very probable). Durarara!! has a shot at third, though. Eh, I need to keep myself to no more than two anyway so this should help me stick to that.

Too bad the one shows are all 6+ discs except Chuu-bra!!, which is a much nicer 4. If only that could be the standard...

Looks like Nodame Cantabile Finale is another DVD-only title, for now. Like Durara, even though it's animated and aired in HD, I wouldn't expect it to be a huge seller on Blu-ray since it's not exactly an otaku-oriented title.

C'mon... You guys didn't "forget" about the Harmageddon (幻魔大戦) Blu-ray, did you?
