I think that also depends on whether you are willing to pay that price for them. Japanese BD are probably going to be pricier than their North American counterparts just like it is with R1 vs R2 Japanese DVDs.

Once again, I think I've come across another anime release coming soon to Blu-Ray in Japan that is currently not mentioned here, this time on Amazon.co.jp:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%A4%E3...173266&sr=8-10

"Ibaraado Jikan" (or "Ilbard Jikan")

Release date: July 4, 2007 (Japan only)
Distributor: Buena Vista Home Entertainment
Studio: Studio Ghibli

ANN entry: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...me.php?id=7801

This would make it the first Studio Ghibli title to hit Blu-Ray yet, right?

Regards,
inu-liger

Correct, though it's more of a showpiece than a movie as I understand it.

Since we in the UK have been stiffed over region compatibility with Japan for Blueray, I was wondering which, if any, Japanese releases were region free? I assume the ones that say Region A are region locked, but what does "Region: 31" mean?

Where are you seeing 31? That should actually be listing an alpha character instead but I may have missed a spot.

On what page though? In the review itself or elsewhere?

Chris, looking at the review links (from the top post of this topic) I see region "31" on all of the Japanese BD review pages except Akira.

I see region "40" on ALL of the HD-DVD review pages.

Should be all fixed now. A global change I put in yesterday/day before seems to have thrown that off.
