A new Gonzo show for April (one of several), it has flames and swords and girls, so I'm guessing it's probably good =P

ANN's article on it.
Official site.

Thoughts in a separate reply so as to keep spoilers from the root post.

Default Kaze no Stigma Ep. 01

Episode 1:

- OP is engrishy and not very memorable, so I'll likely skip it. Nothing terrible though.
- The return of Itsuki! I actually rather liked Ono Daisuke's work in that role, so it's good to hear him again here.
- And he's a bastard, which makes it that much more awesome. Way to extort 100x the fee out of the rich guy XD I think I'm going to like Kazuma
- ::blinks:: Is Kazuma... killing his family members? o_O I knew he had a chip on his shoulder but he doesn't seem to be that kind of character.
- And so it seems he isn't. The spirits of the wind that he made a contract with are doing the killing? Looks like he isn't truly in control of his own power.
- Ayano confronts him... the fight was decent, but there was a bit of tension lacking in the end. Anyway, I hope they can fight on more even terms later on (if they stay enemies very long), and that Kazuma doesn't stay overly powerful.
- With Ayano always yelling KAZUMAAA I keep expecting him to respond RYUHOUUUUUU!
- Mmmm, ED is like the OP, not bad but nothing that'll make me watch it repeatedly.

Decent first episode but there was nothing really that really made me think "I MUST WATCH THIS!" I'll keep up with it for now, but it won't be a priority. It has the potential to be cool, what with both protagonists being potentially on opposing sides, but the OP and ED make it clear that Kazuma will be on Ayano's side (or vice versa) very soon. So, hopefully this force that's manipulating Kazuma will be suitably interesting. ::shrugs::

Not sure but you might want to put up spoiler warnings. I don't really care but some are really...anal (can't come up with a better word for it).

I just forgot to change the subject line, let me go do that (post itself doesnt need any tags). As the first post said, "Thoughts in a separate reply so as to keep spoilers from the root post."

I think I had a similar impression of episode 1. While it was decent, and the animation was alright, there just wasn't really anything that drew me into it.

Additionally, I sort of got the feeling (with how much fighting happened in the first episode) that it's trying a little too hard. We'll have to see if this is a foreshadow of another Gonzo falloff after the first couple of episodes.

The first ep was ok. It had a good enough story to keep me interested and I"ll be checking this one out for a while. The premise looks promising, especially to see the other elemental tribes if there is any other.

Default Kaze no Stigma Ep. 02

Let's see if this gets more compelling...

Episode 2:

- I still can't get over how bright these girls' hair is >_> Like, SUPAR RED and SUPAR BLUE and SUPAR YELLOW.
- Disappointing, I was hoping Kazuma's father would beat him senseless or something, just so he doesn't become too overly powerful too fast. And that was... the most anticlimactic end to a battle ever. They sounded like they were talking about the weather.
- Ren is... lame
- I like Ayano so far, but she seems decidedly secondary to Kazuma at the moment, and he's not really working for me.
- Good job giving away the villain in the next episode preview there. Lawl.

Mmm that episode didn't really go anywhere either. I think I'll put this on the "grab if caught up on everything else" list, which isn't likely to be any time soon...

You have the wrong expectations.

According to the official setting, Kazuma is like god-mighty powerful from the beginning of the story as he is the *only* Contractor in the world, he's not just a big talker, he is cocky because he has the right to be.

Kazuma's not the one that needs to get better, that's Ayano's role.

I've seen up to ep 6. While this did give me a generic fill and the cliched setups did bother me, I'm finding myself eager to see what happens next.
The characterizations bother me though. They've been done many times before in a much better manner:
Kazuma - the cocky snide guy who of course we know will reveal that he actually was thinking in the best interests of everyone and is acting that way because of his angsty past.
Ayano - the typical tsundere girl who will all out to deny her feelings and constantly acts like an ass to Kazuma but will eventually show her softer side to him.
Ren - the typical annoying shouta character.

I am impressed however that they actually have guts to kill characters and have them stay dead. It bugs me that however most of the other characters are nonchalant to the deaths and react to their deaths like they lost $10.

Default Just finished this

Anyone else finished this series? Or am I the only one who persisted while everyone dropped this?

Anyhow, I think this show ended up being more watchable than it deserved to be. It has some horribly sloppy writing in the storylines and cliched character interactions. However these were saved by having a fun cast. Yukari, Nanase and Katherine were enjoyable to watch. Ren also surprised me with his character growth and I was like watching him with male/female admirers. The ending however was not really any ending but seemed more like a setup for a 2nd season. I personally think that Kazuma and Ayano reminded me too much in their behaviour with the lead characters of Full Metal Panic. Maybe Kyoto Animation could pick up the 2nd season of this and do a comedic season in the style of Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!?
