Seems like the day has come to start discussing one of my favourite seasons of Sailor Moon so let's take it from the top:
Episode 90 - Premonition of World's End? Mysterious New Senshi Episode Summary After she experiences apocalyptic visions, Rei is attacked by an extremely powerful monster that Sailor Moon cannot fight. Episode Trivia # This episode included the first appearances of Professor Souichi Tomoe and Kaolinite, even though excerpts of this episode were already screened in the preceeding episode as a preview. # Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune appeared in shadows in this episode (although they are clearly seen in the opening theme), though they weren't revealed until episode 92. # This episode included the first mentions of Pure Heart Crystals, Talismans, the Holy Grail (Sacred Cup), and the Messiah. # The visible section of Usagi's failed English test read (in English): "One day, Mr. Ikuhara went to Roppongi to do nanpa. He was (1) tired after a big work. So he applied for comfort to any tender girl. But he was caught (2) _____ new-half." To "do nanpa" means "to flirt with/pick up girls." Kunihiko Ikuhara was the season director for Sailor Moon S. # Dub Episode Title "Star Struck, Bad Luck" And here are the links to the discussion of previous seasons: Sailor Moon Classic Sailor Moon R

Ahh, this brought back some memories. I didn't really remember much at all about R, but this I do remember bits and pieces from when I was younger. I vividly remember the shadow faced mad-scientist guy, and the dank basement lab, and all those shots of Daimon vials. I also remember the villains tearing around in one of those old fashioned ambulances (like the Ghost Busters had) while jazzy music blared. I guess we haven't gotten to that part yet. For some reason I thought they fired Daimon pods from a gun though.
Well enough nostalgia. As for this episode. The animation seems much more lively than last season, lots of neat sight gags. Wow! That was some naked exposition between the Doctor and his assistant. I think she already knows about the "take over the world" thing dude. I really liked the monster of the day. Though she didn't really seem "many times more powerful" then previous minions, just a lot faster. I hope this means we'll be having some much tougher battles in this season. Hey, was the Doctors Japanese actor the same one who did Kagato from Tenchi and Mr. Alberto from Giant Robo? Best bad guy voice ever! Though I like his English voice quite a bit to. |

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode the first few times I saw it but nowadays I cannot seem to remember much from it, past the fact that Rei was the victim this time. I like how she was the first one to get attacked as she is my favourite and things like that just make her seem all the more special to me :D
Random thoughts: it was edge of your seat stuff when all the senshis were beaten, and even Sailor Moon couldn't do much - since by now we always expect a pattern of her saving the day. Love the silouhettes as well. It's already starting to be Utena-ish and we are only up to the first episode :D

This was a great way to start off a new season. The art direction isn't one of my favorites, but I feel that this is one of their best efforts.
Gotta' love the locations they placed those black stars on the diamons. Ugggh. Kaorinite is so hot. "Your fortune for today is... VERY BAD!!"

Episode 90: Having Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune in the opening animation sort of takes away the mystery about the two new characters. I guess that I have Pioneer to thank for that.
The dream that Rei has is rather ugly. It does have good dramatic effect, but that is not how I want to start the season. But when she wakes up to find herself looking at Usagi, that is more like it. I think that I am going to hate the Professor's laugh. Even hearing it one time grates on my nerves, like fingernails on a blackboard. It is even worse than Esmeraude's. It is comforting to see Rei and Usagi going at each other again, even though Rei is just a bit too nice, due to the effects of her dream. I am not at all happy about the girls being so helpless against the first monster. Even Tuxedo Mask could not do anything. I really do not like the way that this season is starting. This episode used the ending from Sailor Moon R.

I rather like Tomoe's voice, though. In the English version too - he's one of my favorite voices in the dub. Anyway, need to get to watching this episode (hope I have time today since I'm pretty busy with a paper). I know it's going to be a huge dose of nostalgia for me. The episode director for ep. 90 is Junichi Sato too - neat that I started with an ep. he was involved in, given he became one of my favorite anime directors. ![]()

The two... uhhh... mysterious warriors who save the day are pretty cold. This wasn't right target, so they wasted their time! (And, you know, saved someone's life... )Quote:
