Default Patlabor BD FYI

Just finished going through the Patlabor release and wanted to note that the included DVD is not region 1/2 encoded, it is region 2 only. The BD is obviously region A however and played fine on our US PS3.

Do you mean it's region A only, and won't play in region B players, or just that it plays in region A players? The latter is obvious, since Japan is region A, but the former isn't.

It's possible the BDs are region free since the DVD's region is clearly marked but I don't see anything indicating the BDs' region. I don't have a region B player to confirm, however.

I'm in the same boat; I can't confirm whether it works in region B players and their coding just isn't listed for that side of things. I have no way of testing it.

Definitely anxious to hear your impressions of the disc. I want to grab this, but I can't fork over the cash unless I know this is going to make me cry tears of joy throughout the entire movie.

Or something like that.

Was there a tentative announcement for the US? I seem to recall that it was going to happen, just no date was given. I'd rather wait it out a bit.

That's what I recall as well; it was talked about at the same time as Wings was for the Japanese release but so far we've only see Wings get the US nod. The disc is laid out the same as Wings with US FBI warnings and all so its essentially a done deal.
