Very touching review of the late Geneon.

To be realistic, I don't see them coming back at all. I would love for them to return, but I don't see it happening.

R.I.P. Geneon

Good and sorrowful.

It is really too bad that we have lost Geneon. I was in denial for so long, hoping against all odds (partly because I want some shows finished).

As far as the questions, I doubt Geneon will rise again (under a different name - maybe). But I would love to see them come back into the market.

I have to echo the good and sorrowful comment. Geneon was my favorite R1 company and I'd welcome them back with open arms.

Note: Chris, your list is missing Shana Vol. 6. I added in to my list where it would have gone. You have it listed as "Shana Vol. #6 - By Geneon Anime Music" which is probably why you missed it when you pulled the list.

Oh Geneon. It's a shame, and I miss them. I voted that 1) we will not see them and 2) of course I'd want them back.

I guess when I respond to these posts, I'll include a list of what stuff from them I've bought, going off the list of what came out in 2007.

Bought:
01/09/2007 - Shana Vol. #3
03/20/2007 - Shana Vol. #4
05/01/2007 - Shana Vol. #5
05/29/2007 - Karin Vol. #1 (also w/limited edition)
05/29/2007 - Rozen Maiden Vol. #1
06/05/2007 - When They Cry Vol. #1 (also w/box)
07/03/2007 - Strawberry Marshmallow Complete Collection
07/03/2007 - Shana Vol. #6
07/10/2007 - Rozen Maiden Vol. #2
07/17/2007 - Karin Vol. #2
08/07/2007 - When They Cry Vol. #2
08/28/2007 - Rozen Maiden Vol. #3
09/18/2007 - Karin Vol. #3
10/09/2007 - When They Cry Vol. #3

Geneon was pretty dry until the very end of May. In fact, since I just bought Shana on Monday, Geneon didn't have a single thing I wanted until almost literally mid-year. But they *began to* release some real quality shows after that. They were on a roll with the license of ZnT and Nanoha. And I really wanted to finish Higurashi, Karin and Rozen Traumend... I bought, but then subsequently canceled when they died, disc 1 of that.

Geneon's habit of prelicensing shows brought down the number of things I'd have quite likely have otherwise bought from them, had I seen them. Even Shana was only finally purchased as an impulse buy and because Geneon is disappearing. Otherwise I'd have bought it when they were still alive and it potentially would have made some minuscule difference. Ditto for Strawberry Marshmallow, only got it because I was able to get the set off eBay for a reasonable price. F/SN was never purchased at all, but probably would have been if I'd seen it. Prelicensing is one of the only things they were into that I disliked.

On the whole, they had become one of my favorite companies over the past two years or so, and they had so much promise in the years ahead.

Such is life!

Their announced licenses I planned to (and did, if released) buy:
Rozen Maiden 01/12/2007
Karin 02/16/2007
When They Cry - Higurashi 03/06/2007
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha 06/30/2007
Shakugan no Shana OVA 06/30/2007

What about Zero no Tsukaima? Was that really announced way back in 2006?

Anyway, almost all of them. Since I just bought Shana now, I would have bought the OVA... that they'll never release now.

I actually bought a heck of a lot more Geneon than that this year, but those were thanks to TRSI's wonderful Abundance sales, or picking up discs a bit late depending on the timing of TRSI sales.

As it stands now, Shana Vol. 6 marks probably the last Geneon disc I'll ever own. Interestingly, it brings the total calculated runtime of my Geneon collection to exactly 20,000 minutes. The final count is 209 Geneon discs total, comprising 778 episodes, with a final average of 3.72 episodes per disc.

Goodbye, Geneon. It was good.

I do not know if they will ever come back but I sure hope so. Not only did they have some of my favourite series but also at the end some really interesting series where about to get released.

I don't know how I could not want them to return to the market. They released several excellent shows and had the best video and audio quality of any R1 studio. I miss Geneon

I have no idea whether or not Geneon will ever return. However I'd be glad to see them back if they ever do. All I know is I have series I need to finish and ones I was planning to start on. Ah well time for another random moment of depression.

I always thought that Geneon had a good line-up, but the slightly higher MSRPs on their DVDs kept me from buying their titles for the most part. It was starting this year that I started buying a lot of their stuff, mostly from RightStuf's lst Geneon sale and Otakon, but still...

Hints of greatness could be found elsewhere, such as the new shows they had just started in on such as Story of Saiunkoku and Shonen Onmyouji.
I bought Shonen Onmyouji Vol. 1, but haven't watched it yet. But with it not continuing, I'm not sure if I should just sell it or not.

Just about everything outside of Law of Ueki had me eager to put it in the player to see what new wonders would await.
Law of Ueki was a series I fully enjoyed, and I was just starting to collect the DVDs and manga. Even though I can only get the first 9 DVDs as of right now, I will get them sooner or later. Hopefully the dub for the rest of Ueki, and the other shows which are still still getting complete dubs, will not be lost and this show, and the others, will get picked up.

Still, it's a shame Ueki doesn't get any real sort of recognition here; Chris pretty much said nothing but good about Geneon in this Year in Review, except for Ueki, which he gave a vague inkling of it being Geneon's only "Bad" show...

This really doesn't make me feel good; it seems Ueki will never get continued...

I want Geneon USA back...but their hasty exit hurt their reputation badly with fans and retailers alike.

Dentsu is fully to blame here, panicking instead of letting Geneon try new strategies. Even worse, they were starting ot meet the goals demanded of them by their idiot parent company when they got shut down...
