In Summary:
One thing is evident throughout Genma Wars – if you're a woman, you're going to die. None of the female characters survive well here and they all go through some serious loss and pain because of their involvement with the Mah boys. While my fears about the show were pretty much realized in finally seeing it, it admittedly doesn't feel as bad as I remember it being several years ago. Different influences and a greater interest in Ishinomori's work has certainly affected that. Yet Genma Wars is definitely the most substandard adaptations of his works that I've seen. While there may be a good core story to work with here, one that's definitely familiar, its execution is incredibly weak and done with poor animation that was emblematic of many digital productions during this time that were looking to do things on the cheap. Genma Wars continues to be an easy pass for the majority of people but I've found it to be an interesting curiosity and a way to get more of Ishinomori's alluring ladies in anime form.

Running out of stuff to watch? Next you'll be reviewing anime that's only on VHS!

Anyway, I had gotten the Genma Wars singles for uber cheap from Right Stuf, along with Babel II and the Daichis for uber cheap, and after hearing so much abd about it, I was thinking about selling it.

But after seeing it NOT getting a D rating, I might as well take a look at it. I do like Ishinomori's works, so I'm interested in it in some form.

If it wasn't for my interest in Ishinomori and understanding his works a bit better now, it likely would have landed in the D range, which is what I felt about it years ago. Time and perceptions have mildly altered that. It also helped taking it all in over two days.

Well, I bet you're at least glad that it's completely out of your To Watch pile now. What's the next really old release that you will finally watch now?

If it comes to it, god help me, Slayers.

Thankfully right now I have death note, galaxy angel, kanon and zegapain to watch. My Imaginasian releases should be in soon too.

Yeah, the animation is very cheap, but I liked this anyways. It has that classic 60's/70's manga feel to it. Definitely, good for people who like Ishinomori or similar creators like Tezuka. I don't think it comes close to covering the entire manga though.

Genma Wars is a title I got for very cheap to reach a shipping threshhold like a year ago. I've yet to watch it... and I think I'm probably going to scream inside as I watch it.
