Eye-shut Characters in Anime

What do you make of anime characters who usually, if not 99% of the time, have their eyes closed? Such as when they're walking around or having a conversation, there are quite a few characters in anime who are able to interact "normally" with their eyes shut.

And what are some examples of this in the series you have come across?

Mitsune Konno (Love Hina) and Nagase Kaeda (Negima) are two that come to mind that have their eyes shut for the majority of the time in their respected shows. To me the eyes are a dead giveaway of their personality and in some ways, makes the characters appear more cute.

Well, for me the recent example that comes to mind is Tanaka (Shakugan no Shana) and the first time I did see them open was when [hide]Ogata confessed her feeling for him[/hide].

Oh, and I can't forget Brock.

Twice in the series.

The other time was that mini-OAV thing where it's speculated that he opens them when he's telling the truth.

Vincent Law the first few episodes of Ergo Proxy. But there it has more meaning, not a random eye-shut character. As he learns more about himself, his eyes literally open.

Ichimaru Gin, although I don't think he's the only one with eyes shut. Noitra looks like another.

I have to admit, I find them a little annoying to look at at times. I mean, c'mon, open your damn eyes!

You wonder how they manage to eat, and how they avoid walking into walls. Then I remember that this is anime, and the normal laws of physics don't apply.

There's Xellos... eyes closed most of the time, but when his eyes do open, you know: Asses are about to be Kicked.

And more on the comedic side, there's Mokona, whose eyes were closed throughout Magic Knight Rayearth--but when they were first shown as opened in Tsubasa Chronicle, I think I snorted my beverage out through my nose.

Probably also because when she opens her eyes, she just looks so weird, as they gave her massive bug eyes O . O
