I'm interested in getting Gankutsuou, Flag, or Texhnolyze, but I'm curious what others think of the three shows.
How would everyone rank them, and why? |

I've seen all of Gankutsuou and I thought it was excellent, I recommend it.
Flag I really liked the first episode of but haven't seen the rest so can't say whether it's good as a whole. Texhnolyze... I though it was a great show in many ways, the music, the visuals, the direction, the world building, a lot of interesting stuff with the characters, but it's awfully bleak and I found it too depressing to continue with in the end, I got to episode 9 and the bleakness and lack of time to watch it in caused me to give up, so it might be for you, but I can't say, it depends on how sad you like your anime.

I haven't seen the others, but Gankutsuou is awesome! If you have the means to purchase the entire series, I say go for it.

Gankutsuou tells one of the most riveting stories I've seen in some time. Very well written full of stylisisticaly drawn imagery with cool retro science fiction window dressing. Very highy recommended.
Texhnolyze is an extremely dark, grim and somewhat surreal tale that will stick with you for some time. One of the darkest anime series yet. There's lots to think about in this one. Very highy recommended.

This one was so densely packed for me that I wasn't able to fully appreciate it until a couple of months after I had finished watching it. It's a true dystopia with zero sugar coating. At the same time, it's also a very human story.

I still have to watch Flag. Looked interesting from the first episode, but I can't really say much about it.
Gankutsuou gets my top position, for being beautiful, interesting, having great characterization and story, and being the best rounded anime of the list. See the recommendations on this one in another thread in this forum. Texhnolyze is, as has been said, quite bleak. I consider it an interesting anime, but less well rounded than Gankutsuou, a less clear plot. It thrives on atmosphere, but you have to be quite quite awake to make sense of its storylines. |

I just finished Gankutsuou last night.
While I don't think it's going to make my top ten list, I do feel that almost all of the praise it has received is justified. As such, I'm gonna recommend it, too. I have not seen the other two series, though Texhnolyze is surfacing in my backlog.
