With the Speed Racer movie out, will the Japanese anime see a DVD release? Forgive me if the info is here somewhere. Thanks.

A DVD set for マッハ GoGoGo was released back in 2000. Singles for the series were released in 2001 in Japan. It's out of print at this time, but they might re-release it if the movie is popular in Japan.
As for Speed Racer, IIRC Lions Gate already released the series. You can find it at most DVD retailers.

I personally would rather have an actual DVD release of the 1997 Mach Go Go Go remake, which aired on Nickelodeon for about 2 months and never finished.
But apparently DiC and the company behind Speed Racer are in a legal battle about who has the rights to that remake...

Some animes I would love to see brought over: Ring ni Kakero 1, GaoGaiGar FINAL Eatman and the other ones are old D-rights titles which may eventually find a home: John Sirabella, head of Media Blasters Come visit the Land of Obscusion... Maybe you missed a title the first time around. |

They did a box set release many moons ago, it wouldn't have hurt them to so again close to the movie release.

They wouldn't need to re-release it technically since it's instock when I check Amazon and Deep Discount. They should just advertise it. That should be good enough.

Probably the best thing to do would be to try and get an episode of the original show included on the Speed Racer movie disc(s) as an special feature when it comes out. You've got an audience already interested enough to have bought (or rented) the movie so they're more likely than most to be interested in picking up the show as well, and you'd think with the obvious love of the original show the movie's creators have that they'd not object too heartily or demand much (if any) money to include it. And providing the footage wouldn't cost the current rights-holder any money and would just be good free advertising (above that already provided by the existence of the movie).

Speed Racer's DVD release confuses people, because there is actually 2 full releases for the show.
There was a very limited box done in the early 2000s, and was only sold at conventions (and I think the online Speed Racer store). This set was 5 disks (that I believe were double sided) and contained quite a few extras (not alot, but a decent amount). Lions Gate then did 5 single DVDs that were wholey different then the 5 disks in the set. These were over compressed, came in gimmicky packaging, and on at least the 5th disk, the episodes (might have just been the last one, I don't remember) were actually sped up so they could fit them all on. If you really wanna get the show, the Lions Gate disks are fine (not really, but if you only buy Region 1 DVDs its your only choice, and cheap), and can be gotten for as cheap or 7 or 8 bucks each if you track them down. The 'con' box is basically impossible to find, even at most auction sites. The recent Australian 8 disk boxset seems to be based on the con box and can be gotten for about 70 or 80 imported (if you can play Region 4 and Pal disks). For Mach Go Go Go itself, Japanese R2s are it, and are not only completely out of print, but used copies go for ALOT (to get the full series itll cost you AT LEAST 600, and possibly upwards of 1000). I know I wasn't much help (choices are basically oh well, or pay alot of money), but it's always at least nice to know what's going on. There is also crunchyroll's 'digital boxset' of the series, which appears to be for sale/download now, but I haven't seen the set, nor know anyone who has, so I can't speak for it's quality.
