New Tokyopop titles

Uh, sorry, I wasn't sure if it was okay to post this here.... not too clear on the Anime Expo etc. forum divisions. Apologies to the mods if I messed up. ^^;; Anyway, here's the list of new title announcements from their Anime Expo panel, plus more detailed comments.

Very excited about Togainu no Chi (awesome game, even better manga), and I'll buy anything by Nanae Chrono. I've also heard pretty decent things about Maid-sama, so I might check that out. Not too interested in the rest, for now.

Yeah, I sure hope they're not getting in over their heads here... I was kind of surprised that they even announced new licenses in the first place. :/

I think they should focus on figuring out what's exactly going on with all their current titles instead of working on new ones, but I know a few people that will be happy with these licenses so it's all good.

That was my first thought too, about why they were bothering with new ones already after cancelling so many others. But these licenses were probably already purchased when they made the cutback announcement, and looking through the list, I think these all have the potential to be strong sellers if they can get the Fruits Basket and Kare Kano fans to pick up titles by the same creator.

That leaves only the second Furuba fanbook, her short story collection, and Twinkle Stars as the only unlicensed Takaya.

(First one is inevitable, third one I wouldn't be surprised to see snatched up by Del Rey, second one is the most likely to fall under the radar.)

11 new licenses for one year seems pretty modest for TP actually

I doubt these will be the only 2009+ titles they announce... there are other cons yet to go. Not that they aren't supposedly cutting back, mind.... just sayin'. As for announcing new books....yeah, we'd like to know the fate of the current ones, but guys, the company has to have something new next year. Gotta keep the buzz up and moving, ya know?
