Maids, Bishonen, and Fashion: Kakkoi Con 2008 Report
Convention Report
Quote:
There’s a certain sort of… je ne sais quoi… to a new anime convention, especially when it’s one of the smaller conventions. That might sound a bit weird with the summer being full of big conventions like AnimeExpo and Otakon, but smaller conventions have always been a great place to be a full-blown geek with people who actually know that my bunny purse is Momiji from Fruits Basket and not just some cute bunny bag I found at a toy store.
This past weekend was the first year for Kakkoi Con, Minnesota’s newest anime convention. It took place at the beautiful Sheraton hotel which, ironically enough, had been home to the sci-fi convention “CONvergence” only weeks before Kakkoi Con. The great thing about first year cons is that there’s always a sense of enthusiasm from everyone attending, including the convention staff and even the hotel staff (by the way, a big applause to the Sheraton for having two nerdtastic conventions so close to each other).
However, a first year con always has its kinks that need to be worked out, but while Kakkoi Con was full of kinks it had plenty of good points that made the weekend well worth it.
