Default What's going on with the Shana Boxset?

As a fan who collected the singles and was looking forward to the original OVA + Box that Geneon was going to do when they went under, I've been trying to keep an eye on this new boxset ever since it was announced. However, despite the fact that we are less than 2 weeks from the set's supposed release date (9/09/2008), I can't find cover art anywhere or details on just what this set entails. Has anyone heard Funimation mention if this set will just have the original 6 Geneon DVDs, or if it contains the OVA as well? Type of box? Anything? It's just strange that we're this close to the release date with nothing leaked or announced...

Funimation has not announced anyting about the OVA. Given the price (only $60) and runtime (600 mins) and lack of statement from Funi (they know people want the OVAs), I don't see it containing any of the unreleased OVAs.

Edit: and the official description on TRSI says "Contains all 24 episodes", no OVA mention.

Also, there is no guarantees that you're getting the original Shana box either. The collection sets (Fate/stay night, Ergo Proxy) that's in the Cover Art section does not include the original box.

From what we've seen happen to the coming Geneon collections in the cover art forum, the discs will not be the original singles with a box. They look more like digipacks (or someone forbid it, thin thinpaks). There has been no mention of the Shana collection having the ova so with the price it seems to have, I doubt it. Maybe they will still have plans to make a release with a box with the ova for those who have the singles... but if nothing materializes, then I'm sure that someone decided it wouldn't be cost effective.

Considering that I don't remember Geneon ever giving us the cover art to their original box design, I don't consider this an issue.

We will just have to find out. I presume that the box set listed is the complete collection. If and when the OVA is announced for release, I presume it will include a box.

I wouldn't assume anything at this point. The OVA would probably be released separately if a brick or thinpak collection comes out for Series 1. We might see a box for Series 2 if it comes over. Of course, we need to have the movie released also.

A lot of the people who wanted boxes have already imported theirs already. Boy, did I get hosed with the shipping costs.

...but for the very least, it's a great looking artbox.

Seriously, a lot of people? I mean, you can't just import an artbox, right? So what you're really saying is a lot of people bought an extra DVD they didn't need so they could get the nice artbox that came with it. I don't doubt that's the case; I just want to make sure I'm getting this right.

Btw, do we have an "Official Import Artbox Thread" or something around here? Because it would be really interesting to hear about highly anticipated boxes or people's impressions on their recent import purchases.

That's the sum of it.

I myself haven't bothered with the import route. I held off on getting Shana after Geneon shutdown, and I want to see what's planned for the title with Funimation (especially in regards to the OVA, the movie, and the second season).

The R2 forum picture & discussion threads is probably the closest thing to that.
