Default Looking for Mecha anime

I just got finished watching Gurren Lagann on dvd and I'm intrested in getting more shows like it.

Any suggestions for some more hot blooded mecha shows guys?

I'm not sure about "hot blooded" but my favorite mecha animes are Jinki: Extend, Eureka Seven and Neon Genesis Evangelion. In order from least liked to most liked. I enjoyed them all very much though. I higly suggest E7 and NGE. As for Jinki I suggest it, but it seems it's not well received, so be careful with it.

Everyone seems to love Full Metal Panic, although the little I saw of it I disliked. Everyone raves about RahXephon, but I've yet to check that one out (but will one day). And if I remember correctly Martian Successor Nadesico beat out NGE as "best anime ever" although it has been forget over time. (However I hear the movie is crap) It's still something I'm going to check out, and mgiht be worth a watch as well.

(warning: I didn't see RahXephon, Martian Successor Nadesico)

On an odd note everything here execpt E7 was released by ADV.

When it comes to beautifully animated giant robots, I always recommend RahXephon.

Escaflowne has some decent mecha to it, however it's been awhile since I've watched it. GunXsword has some cool mecha scenes in it, too. Hell, I didn't even realize it was mecha until I actually saw the big honking robot appear. There's also Macross. Much like Evangelion, I think it should be experienced at least once.

It might not be giant robots, but I really enjoyed the hell out of Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040. I think that still qualifies as mecha.

I have even more in my backlog, but having not watched any of it makes it difficult to recommend anything.

Snag up Votoms while you can. It has mecha, and provides one of the most amazing pieces of storytelling ever. You have 52 episode epic saga, following Chirico, a mech soldier who is involved in a military scandal. It is broken in 4 13 episode arcs that differ so much from each. The characters develop in ways most 80's mecha series don't. Despite its relatively high age, snag it up. It's excellent non-Gundam Sunrise that many American fans need to experience.

Something I never suggest, but love very much is Maze - The Megaburst Space. I found it very action packed, and enjoyable, with likeable characters, a great plot, great setting, and many slight nods to other anime series that came before it. But defently read up on this before investing money in it, sense many many people hate it, and it;s pretty much an unkown. I never suggest it, because no one ends up likeing it, but screw it I'm talking about it now .

Oh and if he's (the above user) counting Bubble Gun Crisis as a mecha, I'm counting FLCL. I highly suggest FLCL if you didn't see it (which is doubtful many people have). FLCL is a lot like GL, so it;s right up your alley.

FLCL like Gurren Lagann? I really really really doubt that. Sometimes people need to just stop comparing series to other series and just leave it as an original, totally unique show... but I'll check out Gurren Lagann anyway.

Some good mecha anime's that I like are Neon Gensis Evangelion, The Vision of Escaflowne, RahXephon and what I'm currently watching now, Macross Frontier.

In addition to ones already mentioned, Gunbuster and Diebuster are must watch for mecha enthusiasts. Both are OVA's so they're relatively short and very well done Gainax titles. Hopefully you're a sub-fan because neither have English dubs.

Others that are worth checking out include Vandread and Fafner. Aquarion was better than I thought, but my expectations were not high going in.

Maybe FLCL is like GL because the are both over-the-top,crazy/insane and made by Gainax? And for the record I like FLCL a lot better. it's my favorite anime of all time, while GL isn't even on the list.

Just to follow on this, while I would not lump the two shows together for they are very different, don't be so quick to dismiss the FLCL and Gurren Lagann comparisons completely. Many of the people that worked on FLCL were responsible for Gurren Lagann and the latter does retain the stylish look and brash, over the top feel of the former. And FLCL can be consider a mecha anime, loosely speaking.

For a hot-blooded show, check out Godannar, and I guess GunXSword would also qualify. Both are a lot of fun.
