CRUNCHYROLL AND GONZO TO SIMULCAST LINEBARRERLS OF IRON
News

Online Media Distribution Leader to Simulcast Highly Anticipated Mecha-Action Title With Japan Premiere Schedule
San Francisco, CA and Tokyo, Japan (October 3, 2008) – Online media distribution leader Crunchyroll, and GDH will provide anime mecha fans a rare treat as the visually spectacular LINEBARRELS OF IRON (鉄のラインバレル) will be streamed and available for download-to-own simultaneously as each episode is launched on Japanese television weekly starting with episode one (1) on October 3, 2008 at 12:45 pm PST. More information can be found at www.crunchyroll.com <http://www.crunchyroll.com> .

Kun Gao, CEO of Crunchyroll states, “Crunchyroll has such a huge community of anime mecha fans that we anticipate a huge reception from our members for this visually spectacular title. Additional benefits of a simulcast of the title include increasing the attention of the brand on an international level as well as curbing illegal piracy activities.”

“The story within the original comic of LINEBARRELS OF IRON consists of exciting battle scenes and fascinating stories of each character. I have put special value on that point when creating the animation of LINEBARRELS OF IRON. I am always trying to find out how I can show cool & coquettish mecha-battle scenes by showing sharp sense of speed & presence, and byincluding ponder-able action scenes into the animation. I just hope this anime will be a fun entertainment for fans to watch. I am aiming high for beautiful, cool, but cute mecha-animation! I just hope people will enjoy it!”, exclaims 2008 Anime Expo® Guest of Honor and LINEBARRELS OF IRON director Masamitsu Hidaka.

Streaming: Free. Download-to-own: $1.99/episode only for PC; $2.99/episode for PC, iPod, PSP

Ooh, that's unexpected... or was, anyhow.

I was thinking that Gonzo wouldn't put their "A" titles on the "roll", but perhaps their recent financial woes have made them more desperate. Any word on Bost or youtube?

The news caught me off guard too, but I'll gladly take it. As for now, I've yet to come across any press releases or new reports about whether it'll make it onto BOST TV or YouTube and a quick scan of both websites yielded nothing. Gonzo does have a stake in CR, so perhaps they'll make this one a CR exclusive.

It's not been said publicly, but Gonzo also has a stake in BOST (and recall that it was bost's subtitles that CR used), so perhaps Gonzo is just using BOST as a production house now.

Gonzo have a channel on Youtube, which claims the show will be coming this month (and to BOST), but who knows how long that's actually been up there.

What is amusing, though, is that the PV they have on there is in English, seemingly with a couple of lines of dialogue actually dubbed by the Japanese voice cast...

There is a post on the BOST forums with them claiming that they were just ironing out a few minor details regarding the next show they'll be making available, and that they'd supposedly be able to announce it in the coming week. It may be Linebarrel, it may not be. A case of "watch this space", I guess.

My mistake for somehow missing that. Thanks for the clarification. Here's the link to the US site: http://www.youtube.com/user/LINEBARRELS

I really hope it comes to BOST. I'd rather use BOST than pay CR with their shady history. If BOST doesn't have it by the time episode 2 is out I'll use CR *sigh*

I hope I can resist the temptation until then. Mamiko Noto's voice is hard to resist, it's calling me XD

If the YouTube page posted above is any indication, then it certainly will be.

I guess that old thread I made from a few months back was actually right. GONZO would have been making a sizable mistake not to treat this any differently than their other recent shows, especially since this is their biggest show of the year outside of Tower of Druaga.

Uh, yes. There are people out there who try to avoid using CR if at all possible given CR's shady past. People should do what they feel is right for them after all. Hence the discussion about alternate venues (BOST and YouTube) for viewing the show.
