Default Possible Accelerated Release Schedule for Naruto in Spring 09

Check out Naruto's release details on SimonSays.com. If correct, it breaks down to:

Naruto 32 - 11/4/08
Naruto 33 - 12/23/08
Naruto 34 - 2/3/09
Naruto 35 - 2/3/09
Naruto 36 - 2/3/09
Naruto 37 - 2/3/09
Naruto 38 - 3/3/09
Naruto 39 - 3/3/09
Naruto 40 - 3/3/09
Naruto 41 - 3/3/09
Naruto 42 - 4/7/09
Naruto 43 - 4/7/09
Naruto 44 - 4/7/09
Naruto 45 - 7/7/09

Maybe they reckon this is a way to boost profits, by having people buy four vols of Naruto per month instead of one every two months?

This worked really well for them during "Naruto Nation" last fall. I'd say it's risky business in a time when people are cutting back..... except that it's Naruto.

Interesting though, to see them doing it again.... has the manga fallen behind the pace of anime again that they want to fill the gap and get ahead? (I am not watching the broadcast release at all, but they talked about this as a reason last time, which is why I ask.)

Naruto Nation 2 is official. Viz is aiming to have simultaneous publication with Japan at least with Naruto. Maybe they will expand this to other series eventually.

At the current rate the Naruto uncut boxsets will be finished at the end of 2009, and the manga is already past that point.

I realised that you're probably talking about the TV broadcast, though, so all this doesn't matter.

Anyhow, Viz did say they had huge ideas for Naruto Shippuuden in 2009 though, so I'm excited about the anime side. As for the manga side I couldn't really give a damn, for obvious reasons.

Well, this is the manga forum and we are talking about the manga, so........

And yes, I was referring to the TV broadcast, here in the states.

I wish they would accelerate their schedule for the series NOT running in Jump that come out so infrequently, like Whistle, Hikaru no Go, Saint Seiya...

O_O

...Are they serious? Not that I hate Naruto or anything; I read it in Shonen Jump, and it's enjoyable enough for me to continue reading it. But is there really a need to accelerate the release again? Are they worried that its popularity will start to wane at its current pace?

If they're honestly trying to aim for simultaneous serialization with Japan, I seriously wonder how they're going to pull it off. The way I see it, is that there is no way for the publications to be perfectly simultaneous with one another, and that Viz will be aiming to be only one month behind the Japanese serialization by the end of it all. Meaning, Viz will release the chapters serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump the month after said chapters are serialized in Japan. That is what I suspect that they're aiming for.

The only thing that I'm worred about is that they're going to skip ANOTHER (chunk of an) arc in the magazine, leaving people like myself who follow the series through its serialization to read our missing chapters through other means. I still have to read Vols. 16-27, for crying out loud.

Well, at least it's not like they're can stick any further additional chapters in the magazine, right? Right?

If anything, One Piece NEEDS this kind of treatment, especially since Viz has slowed down the release of this series slightly. Unless recent volumes had 10 chapters in them, it really should go back to being a consistent three chapters a month. The volumes have slowed down to an alternating 3/4 month waiting period.

I think we all know why their releases slowed down to three volumes a year - lack of sales (and possibly lack of shelf space).

Saint Seiya and Whistle! would've been completed this year too, if they continued to be released bi-monthly. But we're going to have to wait another year or so before they finally get to be laid to rest.

And what the hell happened to Hikaru no Go's accelerated release schedule, Viz?

Apparently, accelerated means turning 4-5 months in between volumes to 3 (if the scheduled release dates for volumes 14 and 15 are any indication). Still not what fans have been clamoring for.

Thanks for the heads up.

Vol. 12 was released in May, which was the last volume to be serialized. Yet they decided to wait nine months before finally start to release it quarterly? Having it released quarterly as opposed to bi-monthly is something that I can swallow, but not accelerating the release for nine months is just bizarre and somewhat ridiculous. It only took four months for Shaman King to have its release accelerated, after all.

Why not? Usually there are many more chapters in Japan not released in tankoubon form before the tankoubon actually comes out, they build up like 10 chapters worth then put out a tankoubon, or at least that's what I've seen.

Viz could simply translate the chapters as they're serialised in the Japanese Shounen Jump and release a tankoubon simultaneously with the Japanese.
