Having the download option for the newer shows would be nice, but it doesn't look like for any of the newer shows airing now that they have a download option anymore. Linebarrels did, as of course did Strike Witches, but I don't see it for any of the newer shows (though older ones like Angelic Layer that are 'new' to the site do have it still).

I doubt we'll see that happen. After all, these are companies after all, and if there's money to be made with DVD rights, they will sell them for the right price.

While this is probably true, at the same time it wouldn't surprise me a whole lot if we didn't see all of the shows that get simultaneous streaming releases get R1 DVD releases. So far the only ones that have gone from a streaming/digital download-only release to (announced, they're not supposed to hit until next year I believe...) R1 DVD release are Linebarrels and Strike Witches- both of which I believe were rather popular on CR. I'd not be surprised at all if the companies look at the viewing numbers in CR to help decide whether or not it's worth the extra effort and money to sink into DVD production, (potential) dubbing costs, promotions, shipping, etc. that a DVD release would require. If nobody (relatively speaking) watches a show on CR, it'll be easier to decide that it wouldn't be worth a DVD release....

I agree that it is annoying. But I'm sure ad-block--which I use--also annoys them. So it balances out.

And this was knowing beforehand what happens. It's just such a horrible depressing downer of a show, and I can't imagine watching it in full.
I think this is another Higurashi situation. If I feel moe enough for a character (Sekai/Setsuna), it can overcome any resistance to graphic violence on my part. Besides. I already bought the first four R3 DVDs (and I think a calendar?). I have too much invested in it to not like it. Plus, I like nice boats...

Out of the four Marvelous titles listed, School Days is the only one I could see having any chance of getting licensed in R1 for a DVD release. Granted, I don't know if CR intends to show those four (only School Days has been officially announced, I believe).

I don't really see how that holds for people who are paying for a membership, honestly. And even if you didn't use adblock, the crappy watermark would still be there.

I doubt the subscription, by itself, is enough to pay the bills. I'm assuming they intend for there to be multiple revenue streams (subscriptions, advertisements, pay-to-own, etc). TV stations often have watermarks anyway, so it's not that big of a deal to me.

They don't seem to have much of a pay to own option left from the series I looked at. And this of course has nothing to do with the watermark. Watermarks don't bring in any money.

True. All the watermark does is prevent some unscrupulous person from taking video to which they don't own the rights and posting it online or somehow selling it without giving any money to the rights owners and then trying to pass it off as their own work.

Crunchyroll needs to stand on the principals it was founded on and try to stamp out such unethical practices.

Seriously though there has to be someway to mark the video in such a way that it doesn't annoy those paying money for the content.

Lol, well, it doesn't even do that. It's not the video the rippers are even terribly interested in anyway, it's the subs (which are then put on better quality raws). That's why an average CR airing seems to be getting more unauthorized releases pouncing all over it than even Naruto in its heydey was - because the hardest part, translation, is done. I've watched plenty of such releases, and never once seen that CR watermark. So yeah, I wouldn't mind it if it showed up only a few times (say for example, start, end of OP, midpoint, ED) but it seems not come up almost at random. It's not so bad in bright scenes because it's easier to ignore but it's killer in dark scenes.

Once I purchased a membership, I had attempted to view Strike Witches and found it was now "download-to-own" only. I admit I don't know if any of the other shows are that way.
