Niconico premium accounts?

Are these even available to non-Japanese? I actually tried to sign up once (not being shut out at peak times or getting shitty video quality at said times would be nice, plus bigger mylist and all) but after I put in all my information it seemed to indicate it wouldn't accept my card (Mastercard/CapitalOne, used at a host of different import sites without issue including ones that want the special security options).

And since it seems you can't do it through Moritapo points any more, I guess you would need someone in Japan to buy you a Webmoney ticket or something (Webmoney has the same thing re: foreign cards). There's nothing that says you can't actually upgrade your account, if you can find a way of paying for it.

I don't actually know, though, that's just from a quick google.

edit: OK, I totally lied, you can still use Moritapo, worked fine buying the points with a card that Nico wouldn't accept directly. Make a Moritapo account here: https://find.2ch.net/moritapo/subscribe.php add 2000yen of points, then go here: http://moritapo.jp/nicopre/ and exchange points for a three month ticket for Premium. Way less hassle than I expected.

Anyway took me a few tries to realize I had to enter my name in all caps, but I got through it and have a 90 day account now. Thanks for the help. Too bad I can't just set it up on a recurring renewal (or that I can't buy exactly as much as a month costs) but this wasn't too bad.

Yeah, seems odd that there is a straight-forward way of doing it, but not the most straight-forward way. If they can setup Moritapo to take foreign cards, I don't know why they can't do the same for Nico (maybe someone a little more familiar with banking procedure can explain). Anywho, glad you got it sorted, I'd been vaguely meaning to look into it myself for a while, so that gave me something to do during breakfast. ^_^

The easiest way for me was to just sign up through my cellphone (I don't have a Japanese credit card yet).

But then when I switched to an iphone, I can't do that anymore!

I will assume anyone who cares is well aware, but for anyone who might have cared but always thought it was too awkward, (edit: these days) you can pay for NND Premium via paypal. That, and the Vita app being awesome, is a pretty strong combination.

Ah, that might make things simpler. Of course I've got a decent-sized balance of Moritapo points already, thanks to having to buy in increments that don't line up well at all with the amount a premium account costs.

I need to renew again in a few days, so I'll probably use Moritapo again, but Paypal should simplify it a lot in the future, if I can ever get the Moritapo balance low enough to not feel bad about "abandoning" the unused points.

Edit: Oooh... can I use Paypal to purchase event tickets too, like for the upcoming Miku concerts? That would be lovely.

Hah, yeah, that was the same for me for a while which is why I didn't notice the paypal option until recently when I was looking into the Vita app.

Haven't tried to see if paypal can be used for anything else, but setting up the ¥525 a month sub worked fine.

Where did you see Paypal listed btw? At Moritapo, or on Nico itself?

Sounds like you do an initial purchase of 500, then after that any time you try to purchase something, it'll automatically buy points in increments of 1000 up to however much you need?

Paypal definitely isnt listed as an option when buying Nico points directly for the event unfortunately.

If you go to your account settings and click on "change payment method" next to the top line that lists you as a Premium member, you should see it at the bottom.

edit: I just tried to add points via the "point autocharge" method, and it has let me buy 500 points and register for the autocharge thing with my UK Visa card, so that is... interesting. edit2: oh wow, apparently that's actually standard now that they recognize Verified by Visa. Happy days.
