Default The end? for Toonami Jetstream

The Viz/CN partnership site Toonami Jetstream appears to be on its deathbed. Last week, all content was removed and the "Top 10 episodes" for various shows were uploaded with nearly 1+ year expiration dates. According to others on the TZ forum, the web is gradually being scrubbed of links to Jetstream and advertisements are no longer appearing in Jump for it. This week, the comments got updated and there was no change in the videos.

(There were previous signs that it was supposed to die on 2/23 since that seemed to be a common expiration date beside the 1+ year Naruto videos.)

If this is the end for the service, which all signs point to, it would mean that, yet again, Viz would not finish Hikaru no Go (3 eps left) and Zatch Bell (7? eps left).

As much as I liked Toonami, Jetstream sucked. What's the point of making an online site that only has edited episodes? Especially when you can get uncut ones elsewhere?

I dunno, maybe for kids?

Jetstream was a nice, simple portal for kids to watch cartoons. It didn't try very hard but it worked for what it set out to accomplish.

Ending with 3 episode left of Hikaro no Go and 7 left of Gash Bell, though..... That's just cruel. If anyone was actually still watching them I feel sorry for them.

Well, at least Kiba (which used to air on there, if I recall correctly) got a new home on ADV Films' upcoming DVD releases.

I just hope that all those orphaned series (Eyeshield 21, Mega Man Star Force, Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo, MÄR, Zatch bell, Hikaru No Go) will eventually get rescued and get a new home on DVD as well. Granted, HnG already got 3/4 of its series released on DVD, but still.

While I used to watch Toonami, I never did bother with Jetstream. There wasn't much of interest to watch on the site. I'm not too surprised to hear that Jetstream is possibly going away, especially after Toonami on Cartoon Network did.

*raises hand* Diligently for the past two years I think it's been now. Well, for Hikaru no Go. Not interested in Gash Bell personally. The worst part though is I'm already boycotting buying any more VIZ shows, ever since they cut off Full Moon, so there's nothing more I can do to express my frustration about this other than to say damnit VIZ! Of course this may not exactly be their fault, but I mean it's just three little episodes and there's still apparently some time, so why can't they just put all of them up and finish it off? Sigh.

And they are showing Kiba on Anime Network on Demand. I've watched through episode 8 so far.

As far as Eyeshield 21 goes, Viz only distributed that series. It was dubbed (badly) by something called the Eyeshield 21 Project, basically a joint venture of the show's Japanese creators.

But yeah, Viz sucks. Honestly, they are probably one of the most arrogant companies around. They seem intent on constantly pissing off the very people they need to buy their stuff. Real smart right there.

You know what's really hilarious? Two years ago Viz proclaimed that MAR would be "bigger than Naruto."

They only promote like 4 of their properties. I don't see how they think any of their shows or manga properties will do that with a strategy like that.

Can't say I'm surprised with Toonami Jetstream being axed. Cartoon Network's anime purge is almost complete. It's a shame that they don't want to be associated with anime anymore, considering how much they helped to popularize it.

Toonami Jetstream is now officially dead. toonamijetsream.com takes you to a message saying that Naruto has been moved to CN Video and the other shows are all gone. Not only that, but every anime show besides Naruto, Pokémon, and Bakugan has been removed from the CN show pages.

Well, it was fun.
