Default 1 & Only Netflix Thread

Has anyone else noticed issues with Netflix stocking new and upcoming Funi dvd releases? I compared the checklists and upcoming releases pages on Mania with Netflix and compiled a couple lists. Here's some dvds that Neflix lists, but without any release dates:
01-20-2009 - Darker than Black Vol. 2
02-03-2009 - Claymore Vol. 3
02-03-2009 - Afro Samurai: Resurrection
02-03-2009 - Tsubasa Vol. 11
Perhaps even more disturbing is that I couldn't find any of the following dvds on Netflix:
01-06-2009 - Ouran Host Club S1 Part 2
01-13-2009 - Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A: Complete Collection
01-13-2009 - Shonen Omnyouji Vol. 5
01-27-2009 - Story of Saiunkoku Part 3
01-27-2009 - Baccano Vol. 1
01-27-2009 - Str.A.In Boxset
One weird exception is that Netflix has One Piece Movie 8 listed, which came out on 01-27-2009. The lack new & upcoming releases makes me wonder who they get their Funi dvds from. I would think they get them directly from Funi, but maybe they go thru a video distributor like Ingram Ent. or VPD.

Hmm. IIRC, it did take a few weeks after release before Kanon Vol. 6 moved from the "Saved DVDs" section to being available. Would be interesting to know how they order discs.

That is why I just went ahead and purchased Ouran High School Parts 1 & 2 during the Funi sale at Right Stuf. I want to finish the show but they didn't have pt. 2 on there. Got pt. 1 just so I can have the whole show.

The ones that you have listed that aren't even on the site at all, you might have to request. I've had to do that in the past and they're actually pretty good at getting to the requests. The more people that request them the better though. I'll send out a request for you.

Dang, it took me forever and Google to find the Requests page. They hide it well.

Thank you for that Netflix title request link, shannonleighd. I have a couple of titles I would like to put in a request for as well. I bookmarked the page for future use.

Netflix usually has stock of Funimation dvds on release date. Kanon vol. 6 was an exception, especially since it was originally supposed to come thru ADV then re-solicited by Funi.

I submitted a request as well, and included the list of January dvds that Netflix doesn't have at all. I also added a few upcoming releases in my request, and included links to AAA Anime's site (which has UPCs). I hope Netflix gets their Funi listings back in order soon.

I also submitted a few requests. I'm so glad I found this thread. I just googled "Ouran part 2 at Netflix" and this came up. I've never rented anime series from them before, so I wasn't sure if they were just always slow on the uptake or if this was an exception. Also it seems that Ouran part 2 has been misspelled at a number of places. Both Blockbuster and Best Buy have it listed as "Ourah".

I really wish Netflix let you browse everything by name because a lot of things do not show up in browse lists even if their page says they fit into that category. Ah well, such is life as a fan of a niche market I suppose.

Tempting to wonder if the delays are intentional to help sales. But this question from the Providence Anime Conference 2008 con seems to indicate it is a known problem and one which FUNi stated should be improving.

Might be a good question for future cons or via email.

I doubt Funimation would use Ingram. That's the distributor that ADV primarily uses. Not to mention Funi is owned by Navarre, which does it's own distribution. I wouldn't be surprised if they were intentionally delaying titles to help sales some. Though I can't imagine it would be much of an improvement.
