You guys know the drill. Is it worth my money in these "tough economic times"?

Try Nozomi's TTT movie release first, its 1 disc. The TV series is better. If you like the movie, you'll like the TV show.

Toward the Terra was one of my favorite recent series. It's a great epic sci-fi series that spans several years. The best part of the series to me is the well developed main villain. The main hero is interesting too. He starts off as your reluctant typical shounen hero, but he really matures as the series goes on.
My only warning is the series is definitely on the more serious side, it has pretty much no humor. |

I saw a few episodes of the series and it seemed fairly good. I will suggest renting it first as I am going to do. Now what I can COMPLETELY suggest 100% is Nozomi's Toward Terra movie. It is SUPERB! And extremely affordable in these tough economic times.

I have just seen it, and I think it's a great series. It has a very epic feel to it, because it covers so many years, and the characters get a lot older and more mature over the span of the series. Some characters that feature heavily in the later episodes aren't even born at the start of the series. For the first couple of episodes, I was worried that the main character, Jomi, would turn out to be an immature whiner, but he adjusted well in a just a couple of episodes, and then the story even completely focused on other characters for a while. The series has a slightly retro feel to its looks, which is mostly because of the oldstyle shoujo designs (based on an older manga, I believe).
The scope of the series (political-social conflict between various types of humans) reminded me a lot of the better Gundam series, except that psychic powers take the role of the mechas, which are either absent or very low key (can't even remember if there were any, which says enough). An additional bonus is that some characters really develop in an unexpected way. A minor character that looked nasty and shallow in an early episode, really positively surprised me in the latter half of the series. |

Toward the Terra is one of my favorite recent series. The characters are well-developed throughout the course of the series; in many cases we see them mature all the way from children to adults. And Toward the Terra doesn't waste characters, either.
As for the other components, I enjoyed the plot of the Mu searching for what they think of as their home, Earth. The visuals and music were both appealing; some of the character designs are a bit retro, but they still look good in general. If you like sci-fi anime (especially of an EPIC nature), I highly recommend it.

Thanks guys. I'm more interested now but I still haven't been swayed either way. I'll keep the series in mind should I get some extra cash sometime soon. But by all means, don't stop posting comments. I can still change my mind.
