As usual, please try to follow these three easy forum courtesy habits when replying:
1) If you're the first person to post about an episode in any given week, please respond to the root post (this post) and indicate in the subject line which episode you're posting about.
2) If someone has already posted about an episode before you, please respond to that post (or a relevant reply to that post). Keep in the right subthread.
3) Don't use the blue "Post Reply" button because it causes your reply not to correctly inherit the subject line of the post you're replying to. Just click "Quote" to the post you want to reply to.

Default Halfway through thoughts

I'm up to episode 13 now. Totally not the show I expected it to be.

I was first deterred by the weird art and the tokusatsu comedy premise. I thought it was going to be too bizarre or too crass or too stupid for me to be able to enjoy it. Thankfully I was wrong; halfway through and I am enjoy this a lot.

Bad points first: The animation is almost nonexistent. It is mostly choppy and the rest are just still shots. The art is too simple and drawn with thick outlines. Got used to it since it doesn't affect the comedy. Also, the humor might not appeal to everyone. The situations are, for the most part, too "normal".

"Normal" being relative. Which brings me to the good point: the humor. So far, the show has me laughing mostly because of the absurd mixture of tokusatsu tropes with everyday life. You see Sunred and the bad guys living their lives almost like normal people; buying stuff, getting into fights for small things, working part-time, helping Sunred's girlfriend move, etc. It is all so mundane but made great by the whole cast of monsters and, of course, Sunred.

The episodes are 13 minutes long, so it's very easy to try it out. Each episode is divided in segments, the usual formula being two long stories with some short skits and quick recipes (yes, recipes) thrown in between.

If the rest of the show is like this, Astro Fighter Sunred will definitely become one of my favorite shows of the year.

That right there is a good way of describing what makes the series amusing. That and the interaction between Sunred and the err villains is just wow. Speaking of which there are times I wonder about those guys... For me this series isn't a higher level favorite or anything like that, but it can be a decent way to pass the time. As of this post I've seen 17 episodes of it.

I am up to 25 and I have enjoyed all of it so far.Sunred is a lazy bastard but funny and likable in his own way.I also kind of get the feeling that the monsters are glad he is around so they do not have to actually do anything evil.

It's hard to say if they are aware of it of themselves, but that's probably true on subconscious level. Honestly I get the feeling they don't really have any plans beyond getting the sun to set aka defeat Sunred.

Vamp was talking about a plan to poison the water supply of the city when he had to stop and return a wallet that a little old lady had dropped. So I think they have plans but they are lacking in will to carry them thought if given the opportunity.
