I'm looking to buy another laserdisc player, but I wanted to see if anyone knew of any good models that I should lookout for in particular. Some of the laserdisc resources on the net seem to like the Pioneer CLD-D704, CLD-D703, Elite CLD-79, and even the Elite CLD-99, but I wasn't sure if there were some alternate models that were just as good and recommended.
Thanks. - Adam Arnold |

The Panasonic LX900 is every bit as good or better than the non-Elite Pioneers.
If you can find and afford it, get an Elite player by Pioneer, otherwise the Panasonic would be a fine choice. Apulo |

Pioneer Elites are all generally good quality, you can't go wrong with one of those. Any top of the range Pioneer should do though. Look for digital aspects on the later ones.

I have the Japanese equivalent of the Elite CLD-99, I'm pretty satisfied. I've been tempted by the Hi-Vision models, though.
Some people seem to recommend the CLD-97 over the 99, however |

Those models you listed are all good models. I'm currently using a Japanese DVL-909 (one of the models that plays both DVDs and LDs and it's in gold color since it's the Japanese model, hehe), and I'm pretty happy with it. I own a RF demodulator for it so I can run Dolby Digital if I choose to.
A little off topic but I just posted some Anime LDs on ebay if you're interested. ![]() |
