Touka Gettan is a show I'm checking out purely because of the great Carnellian designs.

ANN's entry for it.
Official Site, although the flash it uses can be... annoying. It likes to sort of hang and just not load for me from time to time, hope it works better for others.

Posting thoughts in follow-up post to avoid any spoilers in the root post.

Episode 1:

- I've never been to keen on the "prince" type female. Short hair, wears mens' clothes, usually sounds a bit more masculine, always pretends to be (or is) emotionless and aloof. Especially when it's used in a yuri couple, because then it just feels like a cop out so they can have a "pretend" male in the relationship =P And seeing as how Touka and Momoka totally make out in the OP, I'm obviously assuming that'll be what they're going for.
- Well at any rate, the animation is really nice so far. Great backgrounds and attractive character designs. I should mention as well that I thought the OP song and animation were pretty good.
- This is a weird conversation Yumiko and Touka are having. "I love you! How old are you again?" Still, Yumiko is absolutely SMOKING HOT. She looks godly in those thighhighs. "Touka-chan..." "Mama..." "Touka-chan..." "Mama..." "Touka-chan..." "Mama..." >_>
- I really have no clue what's going on right now (8 minutes in), but it's all sorta of totally erotic and pretty animation and great music and all that, so I'm totally into this.
- Helllllo YamiBoushi! Lesbian love and green sparkly teleportation? Halfway through episode one, and it makes not one iota of sense. BUT OH MY GOD IT'S SO PRETTY!

Ok, in the context of thinking of this like YamiBoushi, it makes sense at the end of the episode. I'm getting a very very similar vibe here in terms of the storyline. Clearly the other characters we've been introduced to so far will be cropping up in the other 'world/worlds' Momoka and Touka wind up in. Too bad Touka can't keep the long hair in other "worlds" though... Or at least stop wearing super manly clothes. I guess that's a fetish for some people but blarrrrrgh, so do not like, especially after seeing her with sexy long hair.

All in all, this show made no sense at all until the very end of the episode but I didn't care because it's ABSOLUTELY GODDAMNED GORGEOUS and just looking at it is a delicious, delicious treat in and of itself. I am so keeping track of this one.

And that's exactly how I felt after having watched this, although, my experience was "without being about to understand it completely". It was all a series of scenes bunched together to me, but it certainly looked pretty. VERY, very pretty. Best looking character designs this season. We've all seen our share of series where they carefully plan out all the camera angles so that there are panties visible in every shot, or DVD versions of defogged shower scenes and added nipplage.....but those series could learn a lesson or 2 from this one. THIS IS HOW YOU DO FANSERVICE (Period, also possibly NSFW) Caused me to pause the video and go "OMG, WOW" which is something I don't do ever. And that's all I have to say about that. Hopefully it starts to make sense in later episodes...

I wonder if they almost expect viewers to have seen Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito? I don't want to overstress the connection, of course. After all, I've only seen *one episode* of Touka Gettan, and my guess as to know it plays out could be significantly off. In fact, I expect it to to in major ways, else this would be a total retread (which would also be fine with me, honestly). Still, the general idea of YamiBou and episode 1 of Touka Gettan seems to be the whole "meeting up again in alternate worlds". The difference is that the whole premise from episode one for YamiBou was a search for the other person, while in Touka Gettan they've found each other after before episode one finishes, revealed who they are, and made out.

But YamiBou was actually a remarkably simple (but effective) story. I expect Touka Gettan to be, as we've seen, decidedly more convoluted in its plot, hopefully in a good way.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but reading this thread makes me glad I have it currently downloading. Maybe this will make show # (counts...) 6-8, depending on what I decide on Xenoglasia and Hitohira, that I follow this season. I had no idea this was a yuri show when I decided to give it a try.

I noticed, since I initially was watching it raw, that Touka was speaking with a male speech pattern. I would assume that Touka is actually a trap in that kimono getup and despite the flashback of him looking too pretty to be a boy.

So if I were you, be wary of Touka's gender for the moment. As for the YamiBou expectations/connection, while it is done by the same team, I think this has more connection to the other Carnelian work, Moonlight Lady, than anything else.f

Aside from those 2 things, yes this whole episode is a 'WTF is going on' and 'my good so pretty and sexy at the same time' much like YamiBou

Could be, I just noticed the ANN summary refers to Touka as unambiguously male. And when they show Touka at the end, the clothing and look is very male, as I noted, to my disappointment. I figured they were just pushing the whole "prince" character type to the extreme. So it could be that sexy version Touka WAS just another stupid trap. Probably is the case.

Suddenly, I'm like 500 times less interested in this show. How boring. Now Hitohira really needs to deliver on the yuri, or I'll be all sorts of sad.

See, I noticed the "he" in Newtype USA and wikipedia, but I was thinking that was a mistake on their part and s/he was just a rather manly woman as disarm said. Looking at the website, I think that is a man's chest, though I did think it was a girl when I first saw it a month or so ago.

I'll still give the first episode a try, but I'll probably drop this one if it lacks yuri. It's not like I'm lacking shows to watch this season.

Same, the only info I ever looked up on Touka Gettan before this episode was the Japanese webpage, and then only to get their names... I can read the kana, but not any of the detailed information so it could say plain as day that Touka is male and I wouldn't have noticed. I never actually read that little blurb ANN had.

And then images like this don't help the situation. (Warning, high res)

I'll still give the first episode a try, but I'll probably drop this one if it lacks yuri. It's not like I'm lacking shows to watch this season.

A show like this DOES seem to be one that would be very much driven by the central romance, so I might do the same. Or I'll be so captivated by the gorgeous animation that I'll watch it all even if it completely sucks

I'll still be watching this even if there's no yuri.
After all, Maria-sama is always watching me. :D
