Default Possible Cobra the Animation release?

I noticed that Crunchyroll is adding Cobra the Animation, both the movies and the TV series to it's streaming video content.

I was wondering if this might be a preamble to a possible release of the Cobra movies and TV series on DVD in North America.

If I recall correctly Crunchyroll is partnered with Section 23 ( formerly ADV ), I sure would love to get DVD copies of the original movies.

Just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone knew something.

Hope your all having a safe and happy Holiday season.

An acquistion of streaming rights on Crunchyroll never guarantees or even remotely suggests an actual physical DVD release and the idea of a Section23-Crunchyroll partnership is just ridiculous.

Sorry, it only means CR has the rights from whoever holds the license to stream. Beyond that the titles are most likely in the same process for pick up rights as anything else. Which sucks as I want Saki and Hayate Season 2 (just to name 2, I could go on) on DVD.

I don't think CR has a partnership with Not-ADV- it looks to me like it's moreso that they both acquired the series from the same source, namely Showgate [whose logo appears on some Not-ADV packaging].

Ah well, I know Crunchyroll injected some capital into Section-23 a while ago, I guess I misjudged the nature of that transaction.

Still I'd love to have the Cobra movies on DVD.

Neo-ADV just licensed a couple of series that were streaming on CR. CR and Neo-ADV have nothing to do with each other financially beside the few series that ADV gave to CR to host early on. It would not be in CR's interest to give neo-ADV any money with their competing TAN OVOD service.

Already pointed out by all the other posters, but a CR streaming license doesn't mean a DVD release.
These days lots of series may get officially streamed by not get DVD releases as it's not financially viable.
Just appreciate you can watch them subbed officially and legally thanks to CR.

I'll echo what people said earlier, and point out that I'm the translator for it, FYI.

I know they'd like to release it on DVD and blu-ray, but keep in mind that the DVDs in Japan for the OVA were 6000 yen per episode (for special edition it was 8000). 1 ep per DVD, at 6000 yen.
I point this out to show that the show is aimed at old, rich nostalgia buyers/collectors. It's a classic property in Japan and they'd love to get it more exposure out of Japan, but the demand isn't worth it for anyone to release it here, not in this market.

Personally I think something like a $100-$150 collectors edition box set of the six OVAs in a nice box and coming with a limited edition figure would be the most profitable way to release a show like this (combined with free streaming on sites like Crunchyroll). A cheap disc at $30 for all 6 episodes would maybe sell only 3 times more copies...

But no company is doing that sort of release anymore because no stores will carry it. So it's kind of impossible to make a profit on it, especially with it being worth so much in the minds of the Japanese.

Cool. Now I don't have to have my general quality concerns that pop up with some series.

Time to update your sig.
