Speaking of Kiddy Girl, has anyone else noticed how weird its Katakana spelling is?

Yeah I'm really not sure what the heck a ガーランド is supposed to be. Gaarando. Girland. It's like they use one kana character, ラ, took its r/a (l/a) parts, and used it as the beginning of one word and the start of another. Not sure if I've seen that before.

Google interprets it as "Garland".

But yeah, its not wrong, precisely, but its amazingly non-standard.

To quote myself at the time: "Finally after years of waiting there is more news on the Kiddy Grade sequel. The title is now キディ・ガーランド which, according to the provisional logo, translates as KIDDY GiRL-AND (although it looks more like "Kiddy Garland" to me)."

Gia reckoned it was "Kiddy Grand", but I notice she's sneakily edited the post at some point after I commented.

Default 04/26~05/02 DVD Ranking

Working adds another 4,433. I'm still curious to see how much it will drop off for the next volume.

Default Re: 2010 04/19~04/25 full list

Alright, the more complete 4/19-4/25 [?] numbers seem to be out.

http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-5176.html

Note: When I give ####/####, first is BD, second DVD.

2,844 BD for Sora no Woto 2. So figure it'll be a little over 3k after next week, though we may not see the numbers if it doesn't make the top 30. DVD sales unknown as before, since they didn't rank in the 100. Vol. 1 based on BD ended around 3.5k, so I guess the final average across volumes will be in the high 2ks basd on BD plus a couple hundred unranked DVDs.

BakaTest starts at 3.5k/3.4k for a touch under 7k total v1/week1 sales.

Darker than Black as of Vol. 5 is getting first week sales of 7.3k/2.9k, so we're still over 10k week 1 sales. I believe Vol. 1 topped out around 15k or so? It's 8 volumes so we'll eventually see first week sales under 10k but this one is a definite success either way. The (really good) bonus eps should keep sales up.

Hidamari v2 is 4.8k/3k for 7.8k total. I hope it can stay above 7k through all volumes. I must have season four! We already mentioned Working!!'s 14k+ 1st week sales, and it added 4k more the week after what this list covers. Kimi ni Todoke is still staying above 7k.

Summer Wars finally passes the 100k DVDs mark, on top of the 73k BDs it's sold. Unicorn is ahead on BD with almost 83k, but has sold "only" 51k DVDs so it's a good 40k total discs behind. Not that they're necessarily in competition or anything - they're just the anime ova/movie heavy hitters of the moment. Until Eva 2.22 hits the charts, lol.

I didn't realize FMA:B had gotten so relatively low in first week sales. Vol. 9 only did 5.7k/2.3k for 8k total. I thought the early volumes were closer to 20k. Too lazy to check!

Oh and Drrr tops the anime part of the DVDs again, of course. 17k.

As for the big losers this time, Ookamikakushi v.1 nets 315 BDs and doesn't chart on DVD. Ouch.

Someone noted how remarkably stable (though low) Nyan Koi's sales have been:
Code:
Heh, I don't think I've seen anything quite that consistent.

And for whatever reason that comparison to Manabi Straight comes up again... someone posted a modified list with a "Manabi Line" (まなびライン). Is Manabi Straight supposed to be, like, some kind of exemplar title for some manner of market phenomenon? I dont get it.

Yes, we need more manga animated and more original material made as soon as possible.

Wow. That's just depressing. I get the feeling the story or something didn't go over well. Either that or they all needed the money for more important series.

I have no idea either. Actually, now I kind of wish I had an idea of how well or poorly Manabi Straight did. I highly doubt it was an A grade title, but I'm hoping it did at least C+ to B- level sales. As opposed to say D or lower.

It was fairly close to Sora no Woto which is presumably why it was compared to it a couple lists ago. I'd have to go look up the exact numbers. Maybe when I get home.

Umineko didn't do spectacularly either. There's also a lot of strong competition. Still, there are titles that do worse.

Average of ~2,300.
